Entertaining Mental Obesity, We are Forgetting to Do Our Jumping Jacks

It would be redundant for me to say that the U.S. is drowning in a sea of selfish materialism, but the U.S. is drowning in a sea of selfish materialism. Now, I'm not saying there's anything inherently wrong with having nice things or even wanting more things. The problem occurs when we begin form our identities solely based upon our material goods. This problem is becoming pervasive in U.S.

The So-Called Hip-Hop Soldier

Tagged:  •

As I sit here and listen to the oh so hard rhymes of Common's "I Used to Love H.E.R.," I just can't understand what happened to my beloved hip hop. I'm just asking for one rapper to step forward, and leave all your pretenses of being a soldier of the streets behind you, and actually become the hip hop artist that fights for your people.

I said Hip-Hop and you don't stop

Let's just start this out by telling you that hiphop culture is my culture, and just talking about it is hard for me to do because it's how I live my life, even if I'm unable to do any of the elements I know how to listen and watch, and I don't know if I can completely convey how I feel.

Rap music is disrepectful toward women

Tagged:

I feel that rap music is disrespectful toward woman. I normally do not listen to rap music, but the other day while driving I decided to listen to the radio. Various top 40 songs play and then a rap song is aired. I am listening to the lyrics and hearing words that no one should say about anyone. The song was objectifying women by their body parts and the music was all about sex with women.

How do you feel about Hip Hop?
I've always seen it as a useful artform. I grew up on Hip-Hop, and I’ve seen its transformation from the outcast, to the popular genre. Although I don’t really listen anymore I think that it is because I'm getting older and not necessarily because Hip Hop is dying.

The objective of this blog is to talk about topics that are current events, public policy and issues affecting "young people". I have "young people" in quotation because I am unsure of who is the judge of who is young and who is old. That question is not the objective of this blog, though. The night of the Saturday that just passed I attended a show.
