Racism Today: Has it ever changed?

Throughout freshman orientation, my school’s programs to welcome and integrate the Class of 2011 were filled with the word diversity. A motivational speaker encouraged students not to discriminate against one another, for we are all the same on the inside and all long for the same acceptance.

Are we really discriminating in the ways we tolerate?

In high school, I elected to take a 1 semester class in African history. Among other things, this class talked a little bit about slavery. And although many other bits of information from that semester have crept sneakily from my brain to disappear in sidewalk cracks, this moment sticks with me.

Okay it took me a long time to post this blog entry on progressiveu, but it started on November 28, 2007. So pretend like you're reading it then, as it starts with "This evening" and considering the blog title that says "tonight." I really did edit out a lot of ranting so it's not as long as it even should be. It's a long one, but so important... soooo happy reading.

No matter how much I try, I cannot completely convince myself that I do not discriminate against certain groups of people. Am I a bad person now?

Time to Practice What You Preach

Political correctness has reached a new low (or high, depending on your view) in America today.

A popular coffee shop in my area, Beaner's Coffee, recently changed its name, for fear of reprimand from the political left. The name Beaner is a reference to the coffee beans that are used to make coffee, so why did they change their name?Because it might offend Hispanics.
