I was talking to my Debate coach today about my school and his first/renewed impressions. He had very little good to say about the administration, which was expected since the Debate teams seems to be the only people expected to follow the asinine rules, but he did say one thing about the students that sparked my interest.
race discrimination

A Better America:A question for those who cannot understand the feelings of Rev. Jeremiah Wright
First, you must understand the context of Rev. Wrights message. If you read carefully in my earlier threads, I along with clergymen have said that it is a tactic to stir up debate, like the one we are having, to present a radical view. Once this radical view is presented it is up to the congregation(us) to settle on to what degree the view is upheld.

I'm a good Christian...I just don't want my white son to date a black girl
I from a decent sized town in the south. I'm half black and asian, and I love it. I always thought I had somewhat of an exotic look and embraced both my cultures. Still I am seen as a light skinned black girl with "good" hair and face almost as much racism as other blacks in my school. It wasn't like an everyday occurence, but I would say atleast 3 times a month something would happen.

racism...the real deal in high school hallways!
As a natural observer I tend to hear things, see things, about things im not supposed to here or see. So today as I was siiting in the office, as an office aid, not a trouble maker...i see the kids who come in who really are in trouble and i hear the reasons why.

Oh...haven't I told you?! I'm White.
One of the questions I am most often asked on the campus of the University of South Florida: "What are you?"

Don't Make Fun of Me Because of My Accent
I came to America from Thailand about 7 years ago. Despite the fact that I tried really hard to learn how to speak the language correctly, I still have Thai accent on some English pronunciations. I remember someone said to me, "Go back to your country and learn to speak English right." That exact phrase continues to echo in my ears until today.

Noose: Just a Decoration or a Discrimination?
After the incident of Jena 6, the media immediately picks up on the concept of hanging up a noose. Everyone agrees it is an offensive action. However, is it okay to have dummies hanging from trees or houses for Halloween decoration? If so, what makes this an exception? If not, what makes this year so different from the past years?
