I'm finding more and more that you can see messages for progress in almost anything. Watching a TV show, there may be underlying themes of equality or acceptance. Driving down the road, drivers resist the urge of succombing to road rage even though they'd love to chew out the guy who just cut them off.

Congress or Progress?
Okay, here's a little riddle my friend Amber told me .75 seconds ago.
"If con is the opposite of pro, then would Congress turn into Progress?"

"I've never had a white friend before"
Now that the warmer months are upon us, my sister and I have taken to keeping the boys out of doors as often as is possible. Both of the boys have discovered, as most children do, a passion for being out of doors this year.

By what standard can progress be measured?

Reflections and Racism
The journey that is life makes many interesting stops and detours along the way.

Cool Breeze of Hope in China
I make no bones about how I hate having to catch and use taxis in China. My not so fond memories usually involve a taxi or taxi driver rather. It's easy to become bitter in China and look at this place through pessimistic eyes. It's exceedingly easy when you look from the outside in, but even foreigners who get a good look at the inside develop negatives attitudes.

What is Hope?
Today the pope gave a mass in Washington DC and his message was riddled with a message of hope. The message from one of the top religious leaders can be applied to anyone and everyone int he world today. In order for it to take effect we have to actually THINK about this broad concept. What is hope? How does it affect me? How can it help make anything better?

Do it anyway.
What is that nagging feeling I get when taxi drivers are rude to me, when someone tries to cheat me at the market or when my students don't pay attention to my lesson? Is it anger? No, I don't really get upset. Is it frustration? Maybe, it sure gets me all knotted up sometimes. I want to just "turn the other cheek," but this feeling holds me back.
