Personal Responsibility

"It's only a few dollars."

"It's only a few dollars." These are the worst words for me to hear right now. I'll tell you why, but before then I must add a disclaimer that this is a bit long. It is necessary though in order to explain why this is so painful for me. This is also the story of the last year of my life. It might sound a bit whiny in places to some. Believe me, it is not.

A person’s integrity is encompassed by the consideration of his or her personal values, and that person’s upholding of those values as they relate to his or her personal actions.

What CAN one student do?

This started out as an essay to sweet-talk Chegg out of a $500 scholarship, but as my train of thought kept rolling, I realized that these thoughts were too compelling (to me, anyway) to keep between me and the judges at Chegg.

The Big Brother that we forgot to keep in check??? (A 1984 reference for 2008)

Homeland Security has been allowed to pass some very, let's say interesting, legislature in the days following September 11, 2001. Some of the laws were implemented while we were in a state of shock and as a whole needed to see that our safety was actively being considered in Washington.

On anarchy

The common notion of anarchy is synonymous with chaos, a lack of order, and a generally free reign of anyone with the inclination to control other people. This notion is wrong. People who view anarchy in this way do not understand the meanings, implications, or finer structure of what it really is.

Yeah well, your behavior sucks too; you just won't admit it

The world, I informed my husband last night, has run crazy. He smiled sympathetically and nodded before kissing me on the forehead and assuring me that things would settle down again soon. He knew, as did I, that I was simply fed up and needed to rant. He then listened attentively as I railed about the insanity that has been my week thus far.

So, why exactly can I choose the class without parental supervision, but not choose to drop it so easily?

I’m not a horrible kid. I do my homework (most of the time), and I get decent enough grades (3.2 GPA). I don’t have house parties when my parents are out of town. In school, I haven’t had a detention since the sixth grade, and that was for tardies. I’m in NHS. I don’t get kicked out of class constantly.
