In his book, This is Your Brain On Music-The Science of a Human Obsession, Daniel J. Levitin says that “The chasm between musical experts and every day musicians that has grown so wide in our culture makes people feel discouraged, and for some reason this is uniquely so with music.” (p.194)
Why does this happen, why is there an ever increasing gap between the “music elite” and the “common musician”?

The music screeched and echoed throughout the room as dancers in skin-colored leotards danced in seemingly random movements across the stage, completely out of sync with the harsh music. A large audience filled the room, hoping to witness the cacophony created by the independent usage of two genres of art: music and dance.

Performing Arts programs in peril

The city of Temecula is a huge supporter of the arts. We have two museums for a population of roughly 97,000 people showcasing art, science, and historical facts relating to our city. We also host the Balloon and Wine Festival that brings in many artists, musicians and of course booze, but that is beside the point.
