We all face barriers when interacting with people who we think are different than us. We may be less tolerant of people we perceive to be different. I was working in a restaurant in my hometown about four or five years ago when a woman who was fascinated with American Indians asked me if I knew of where she could find some “real Indians”. She wanted to see a tribe in action, and specifically wanted her picture taken with an Indian. I informed her that I was Indian. She looked at me in disbelief, as if I were lying about the whole ordeal.  Read More »

Native Americans

As usual, I start out the day reading the news. Instead of looking online, I did the unusual and purchased a newspaper. The headline on "The Post-Standard" in Syracuse, New York reads How Pot Ring Exploited Indian Land. My particular rant today isn't about the exploitation of the Native Americans because that has been going on since the Europeans settled here.  Read More »
