questions, catalysts for growth

Are we conditioned to be superficial? What is more jolting, the honest answer, or the penetrating question?

I have found that I enjoy answering questions, in a brutally honest and generally terrifying way. I have also noticed that it sometimes scares people more than the ambiguous unknown.

Jimmy? Do you think we're sex fiends? No Sally. Now shut up. We have time to go again before nap-time is over.

Times have changed since the days when sex was a private matter. Even more so however, they have changed since a time when sex was mainly introduced into life during the mid to late-teen years. Middle school children are having a great deal of sex currently and personally, I think it’s alarming.

With Each Day

As my boyfriend and I were eating breakfast at a restaurant not too long ago, there sat an old couple at the table next to us. As we were leaving, I took a moment to glance at them - the clothes they were wearing, the conversation they were engaged in. I have always been fascinated by the places life can take an individual, and how each person’s life is different.

I am returning to college after an absence of nearly 12 years. After working jobs where I made just over minimum wage, I decided enough was enough. So I took my husbands lead and decided to check out the school he was planning on attending. After meeting with the admissions counselor, I decided it was a good fit for me.

Lifesaver

Those tiny, tiny fingers holding onto the pool edge, suddenly were not. Instead, there were big, round, vividly blue eyes screaming "Hey! Down here! Help me!". It seemed that life was literally flashing before my eyes, but not my life.

It was this beautiful baby's life.

I don't know her name or anything more than the fact she was probably about one year old.

Labels Please!?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •

Okay, so in the past week the utter nonsense of labeling people has really come to light in my mind.
Not because it's unfair.
Not because it's based primarily on appearance, which the majority of us can't change significantly.
Not because it's often hurtful and exclusionary.
Rather, because it just doesn't matter.
