They Don't Just Chop it Off!

A million years ago, during my undergraduate years, one of my assignments was to watch a surgery (pre-op, intra-op, and post-op) and write about it.

My class mates jumped at the first appendectomies they could find, but I wanted something interesting. I asked around about upcoming events and one nurse failed to let me down.

“There’s a vaginoplasty happening in about an hour.”

The Age of Information

Emilie and I were talking the other day about people's knowledge nowadays. She was having issues with someone at work. She told a fork-truck driver to do something because another one of her fork-truck drivers was going to be leaving in 10 minutes. He said something to the order of "He can do it, it'll take less than 10 minutes to do." She told him it didn't matter, she asked him to do it.

Silent Information?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

So, I was taking the FCAT SSS Mathematics today. Afterwards, the teacher and the whole class was having a talk and honestly, I can't blame older people.

There is so much information people need to know before they even enter High School, in my opinion. I try to be informed. I don't see out information unless I'm seriously interested, or it comes to me; but that isn't seeking, is it?

How Powerpoint Can Make you Dumber

Tagged:  •    •

Forgive me if I am stepping on anyone’s toes by saying this, but I’ve had my share of high school teachers that have bored me to death by just reading off a powerpoint. Its so easy to agree that yes, no effective lecturer/presenter would ever do it, but it amazes me greatly how often this is done.

We eat spiders in our sleep, everyone

Tagged:  •    •

The science advisory board on the saying that the average person eats 4 spiders a year:

"Amazingly, I cannot find this one debunked in either the alt.folklore.urban or snopes urban legend archives. I know it's been debunked in the AFU newsgroup--I've been in on the debunking personally, but none of that comes up in a search on the AFU archive. So it's up to me to do what must be done.
