The Drifter's Paradise

I have a question that has been plaguing me.

Why are you going to college? Is it so that you can get a good career?

I've been looking around myself at my fellow college students and I can't help but wonder why they're here. Are they honestly motivated by a need for a career? Are they truly in pursuit of a reality that consists of repetition and ritual?

Stuck in Kentucky

Tagged:  •    •    •

Of all the states in America my parents chose Kentucky. They both wanted seasons, low cost of living, and good jobs. Yes all of that is easy to find here but what about fun? Did they ever think about how boring life will be? I am not quite sure what to make of Kentucky.

Life

It is truly amazing to see how people change over the years. You think you know someone and then all of a sudden you are looking at the person wondering why you ever hung out with them or cared for them in the first place. Sometimes we build up so many exspectations for the people we once cared about, that we find those people are unable to live up to what or who we thought they were.

Into the Wild: Admirable or Selfish?

While visiting graduate schools this past month, trying to find the perfect fit, I spent my time in the airports, buses and subways reading "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer. I was told by several friends close to me that the movie was amazing and that the young Chris McCandless (the stories protagonist) was a bold, and awe-invoking character.

Happiness Only Real When Shared

What is it that makes people happy? Is it something that can be bought or sold? The drug pushers and the advertisers would tell you a resounding yes. I on the other hand, firmly believe in the contrary.

Pure Love - Does it exist anymore?

Even in our world that seems so full of hate, violence, mistrust, shame, and abuse, I would wholeheartedly argue that true love still exists and is all around us.

How to lose weight? Get out of America.

Why is it so hard to lose weight? Everyone knows it's the right thing to do after you've let things slide, but why don't we just do it?

establishing cultural values

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •

Our culture tends to be highly objective when it comes to our value system. We are in an eternal rush to assimilate objects. Money (our official value symbol) is the "objectification of objects", meaning it represents a universal abstraction of the worth of objects, the market value of objects, if you will. Thus, we "objectively" view objects.
