The right to protect and defend on campus

Sitting outside between classes the other day, a friend of mine asked me a question that bothered me. She needed my advice because her little boy's daycare had talked to her about a problem with her son that they wanted her to fix and she was unsure what to do about it. He is not even two years old yet and is not allowed to watch violent television shows, nor does he own any toy guns.
Being the one whom goes to the ghetto school, I often am immersed in situations that aren’t the safest. There are often race riots, and guns at school, that I can easily deal with. The fact that my school gets so much media attention for those types of situations, but none for all the amazing things we do is a joke.
Last year there was an attack at Virginia Tech. We all know this and most of us attending a college felt a little scared and shaken from the incident. My University’s solution was to have a text message service where whenever there was some sort of problem on campus they would send out a text message to everyone who attended school to be on the look out.
After the Columbine shooting in 1999 in which 13 people were killed and 24 injured it seems amazing how many troubled people have embarked on a mission to do the same. After that horrendious day, the two shooters commited suicide leaving many people were wondering; what simply drove those 2 teens over the edge and commit one of the most deadliest school killings in U.S history.

Here is a story today about something that just recently happened in my friend's city of Joilet, IL.
Every month or so, Schools have their emergency drills in case of emergency, right? Every time one comes around, the intercom goes off, and the students and facuty are faced with the hypothetical situation of an armed intruder. What does everybody do?
