I Didn’t Let Him, I Made Him: Examining the Female Role in Relationships

In Faulkner’s much vaunted The Sound and the Fury Caddie Compson responds to her brother’s questions of why she allowed a boy kiss her by taunting his horror of the defilement of what he perceives to be her honor, claiming

“I didn’t let him, I made him!”

Are there REALLY only two genders?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

I first started questioning this when I found out, several years ago, about individuals who were intersex (old term "hermaphroditic") from birth. As in, some people are born with mixed genitalia and/or sexual organs from both genders.

Transgender 5-year-old: What's a Feminist Nanny To Do?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •

My five-year-old charge is a princess. He loves pink and frills. Polly Pockets, Groovy Girls, and Disney princesses fill his toy box. He just had a playdate with one of his many girl friends, and he traded her a unicorn costume he had outgrown for the dress she was wearing.

My Prince may not arrive on a horse, but he will drive with his left foot to see me!

So, I have liked this guy for two and a half years, but distance has seperated us for that long as well. I live in Ohio; he lives in Michigan. Thank goodness that my grandma lives in Michigan and my best friend's sister lives in Michigan; otherwise I would probably never see him. Well, this weekend is going to be a dream come true (a dream that has gone on for far too long!)

Gentlemen Abducted by Extreme Feminism!

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •

I understand that this title entry may not be popular with all the extreme feminists out there, but please let me take a moment to explain myself. I totally am in support of equal rights for both men and women, and I do not look at men as being any better than women.

Feminist Fairy Tales Lead to Lack of Prince Charming!

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •

I have always loved fairy tales, but I have noticed a great difference between these "happily ever after" stories from between the time I was little and now. In original fairy tales, the princess was always sweet, charming, and good natured. Today, many women may look upon these qualities as weak, distasteful, and not worthy of respect. I beg to differ.
