Too Many People

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •

Genesis and Disturbed had it right when they said the world has "too many men, making too many problems". The thing is, the number of people born outnumber the people who die. Each day the human population gets larger, while the population of all the things in the natural world gets smaller.

Development in Hawaii

Tagged:  •    •    •

There is a lot going in Hawaii. So Much ..that it is at times too much to handle. Let's see. Let's list some things going on:

On Oahu:
1. Expansion of Ala Moana:
What! That's great and all .. but, they're adding about 30 more stores? I mean .. Ala Moana Shopping Center is already one of the largest malls in the world .. and the want to make it bigger?

How I'm Making a Difference

This year, I gave up my summer, and I love it.  Sounds crazy, right? Not so much.

You see, I work for an organization called Environment NJ this summer, and it is amazing.  I've only been there for a week now, but I can honestly say that the experience has changed my life.

I am a canvasser, so, basically, my job is to go door to door around different cities and towns in NJ and try to get people involved in current issues concerning their environment, and to promote knowledge and positive progress.

I must admit, it isn't the most glamorous of jobs; I've been chased by dogs, soaked  by sprinklers, screamed at by people who don't want to be bothered, and lost in the middle of nowhere (or at least that's what it seemed like to me at the time).

Development planning

People are not considering the over all impact of development decisions. Those that have the power to make the decision are making one that looks good to them short term because it puts money in their pocket.

Grow Up, Not Out

I remember playing the original "Sim City" way back in the days of sixth grade. It wasn't quite as sophisticated as the newer versions of Sim City (which I still play), but it was pretty fun nevertheless.

One of my favorite things in Sim City was the Arcologies, the huge towering buildings that were designed to be population centers...self-contained little worlds.
