I could probably sit here and post all day long about intelligent, funny, and fun subjects and they still would not get ratings, reads or any comments.
cutting

Selfish, ungreatful....I can post if I want to
cutting
There are so many issues surrounding cutting and so many stereotypes that go along with it also that it isn't hard to see why a lot of people I know in my school think that cutting is just for the "emo" kids. Clearly, most people will know that that is not true. My school is very small and everyone is pretty sheltered.

cutting: not the stereotype
They are emos, attention grabbers, or kids that suffer from abuse at home, etc. They're the stereotypes of cutters, the people that everyone assumes are the only ones who do it. In recent years some teen magazines have started addressing the topic; spurting out statistics and one line quotes from people.

Cut that out!
What is this country coming to when teenagers are lead to slit their wrist and turn to weed when they need a release from the world? For so long I've ignored it and watched as my friends come to school covering their carved arms. Cutting is a horrible disease that so many teenagers have fallen into.

Self-Injury, Self-Mutilation, Cutting......Whatever You Want To Call It
I think a lot of people here on ProgressiveU search for topics they feel strongly about or can relate to, or even something that vaguely interests them. So, I naturally searched for the topic of self-injury. A lot of the blogs I read were very disheartening, uninformed, or quoted from a book.

My "Friend" (a poem on a personal struggle with self-mutilation"
the first friend i made i have up to someone
now i realize i can make many more
anything with a sharp edge smiles at me
has me sitting on my bed or sitting on my floor
gripping its handle
pressing against my skin
scraping it back and forth
cutting again and again

Peer into a Macabre Mind-My Own
My vivid imagination, and self-destructive ways have always left me morbidly obsessed with the macabre. I may be one of the only girls that has extensively planned my funeral and given no thought to a wedding...Previously, as an engaged 17 year-old, I had no interest in choosing gown, invitations, or guests.
I once read a book on suicide, something I had thought extensively about...my dramatic exit from earth...and it said that children who, when they were born, had stopped breathing for any amount of time were more likely to commit suicide and were less afraid of death. I was one of those babies that struggled thru great difficulties at birth. Many times I stopped breathing...and reading that book made me say, "Ahhh, the answer to why I am so weird."
