On good and well

When a person asks another how the latter is, or how he or she is doing (which is, by the way, a greeting in essence; not a literal question), it is commonplace for the recipient to respond with, among other options, “good” or “well.”

Am I the only one who's sick and tired of hearing people try to tell me how to live my life? Honestly, everyone needs to take a step back and shut the hell up before they come lecturing to me about my lifestyle.
