I Can Feel the Pressure.

Being your average, middle class girl from the Northeast has afforded me personal freedom and a liberal mindset. I have been sparred from some of the more disturbing problems in life - poverty, chronic disease, etc.

But I always find myself under an extreme amount of pressure.

A Chapter for Service

Recently I have been conducting numerous scholarship searches. I've been researching different programs and applications, and like many others, feel like I'm behind. I'm a Junior in High School, and it's the end of February. I hear about Grants all the time, but I guess I just didn't realize how and when to go about applying.

Community Service

My name is Ashley Murray and I attend Archbishop Coleman F. Carroll High School located in Miami, Florida. As a graduation requirement, it’s necessary to complete an abundant amount of community service hours. My mother was constantly nagging me to have this completed. Finally to my dismay, I obliged and applied to Abstinence Between Strong Teens, Inc.

CosmoGIRLS are always looked at as pretty and quirky young women in today’s society, and it’s about time a new type of CosmGIRL is introduced. One that is cute, spunky, academically accomplished, and athletic, and here I am. My name is Ashley Murray and I attend Archbishop Coleman F. Carroll High and I’m 17 years old. I am a dedicated soccer player and an academic achiever.

Service to the Community or Community Service?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

Recently, meaning today at lunch, I found out that one of my friends who is incredibly intelligent, missing only one question on the SAT, was turned down for a scholarship based mainly on scholastic merit, but also on character and involvement in the community. When we asked him why he thought he got turned down he said it was because of his lack of service to the community.

mandatory community service?

Mandatory community service doesn't make sense to me.  Sure, I'm all for community service in general, but isn't 'mandatory community service' a bit of an oxymoron?

A lesson in service and loving your neighbor

I've become an extremely opinionated person lately. I don't know where it came from, just all the sudden, I was saying exactly what I thought and I quit being so afraid of what others might think of my opinions. I started thinking about world issues and my rights and how they coincide with the rights of others. I thought about how everybody's rights make this country either good or bad.
