Chinese Civil Society

China is definitely not considered democratic concerning its social situation. Not only does it have no official civil society, but as of 2004, the regime plans to imbed identification microchips into all of the Chinese citizens in order to be able to track and locate individuals. One of my students died...

Since the earthquake, I've been thinking a lot about the students that have died. There are 10,000 students at my school alone. If there were an earthquake in Zhengzhou, my city, I'm sure there would be similar results. I'm just thankful my students are safe since some of them panicked and wanted to run out of the school.  Read More »

Earthquake? What Earthquake?

As far as I know, I'm one of the only people around who missed the earthquake on Monday. I didn't feel it. You see, I was riding my new bike for the first time in China. I was already a little nervous. I set out on my bike probably around 2:20ish. As I turned the corner through the main intersection of my neighborhood, I saw all these people coming outside and staring up at the buildings.  Read More »
