The President Does NOT Control the Economy!

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •

I am sick and tired of people looking towards presidential candidates and the president for economic solutions. Some where along the line the American people started looking for the answers to domestic problems on a federal level; “Who is going to get me out of debt? Who is going make sure my kids go to college? Why the president of course!” WRONG!!!!!

Success, scary isn't it?

Why does it seem like so many of us are upset, disgruntled, or downright offended by the success of others?

Engaging the Energy Discussion

-This is a conversation that I've been having with ProU member, chillbill. It's an extension of the debate that surrounded the recent poll. I thought it was only right to translate these writings into a blog, because although it was interesting, it was uber-long.

As the Olympic torch goes around the world passing from hand to hand, it is becoming increasingly lucky that it contains fire for if it did not it would probably be burned. The Olympics are to be emblematic of global unity but they have an ironic history of being the source of the expression of fiery political tensions.

How to Beat Gas Prices

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •

I keep getting invited to these groups on Facebook about how to slash gas prices. It's nice that everyone has these idealistic concepts and principles but honestly, they just won't work. See gas corporations such as Exxon and Shell don't care about consumer culture the way a lot of other, noticeably smaller businesses do.

Drugs Are Illegal for a Reason

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •

I just spent an hour and fifteen minutes engaged in a class discussion about whether or not the government should be allowed to make drugs illegal on the basis of regulating our health. Questions were posed such as "should the government then make food that makes us fat illegal?" But what if that's not the issue?

The Extension of Classism and Capitalism

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •

It seems as though everyday is one step closer towards pure capitalism and thus an inherent increase in inequality and socioeconomic disparity. This has long been seen with the public education system, especially following the controversial No Child Left Behind Act.
