The right to protect and defend on campus

Calvin College, a Christian Liberal Arts college located in West Michigan is one of the first colleges to allow their security personnel to carry weapons in the performance of their duties nationwide. (http://blog.mlive.com/kzgazette/2008/04/calvin_college_safety_staff_ma.h...)

Lockdown!

Tagged:  •    •

"Attention students, we are going on lockdown mode, please go inside the nearest class room and stay indoors, lock all doors and windows"...this is what our school heard today after school. There was a lot of commotion and students thought it was a joke, but we still stayed indoors.

recent shootings trouble students

Tagged:  •

Every time the news comes on it seems like there has been another tragic school shooting. The frequency in which these events have been occurring is nothing short of terrifying. Who’s next? Should I fear for my life every time I enter a classroom? Are we truly safe anywhere?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •

Yesterday morning, as I was cramming for my upcoming Animal Biology exam, the fire alarms at the university went off, first the siren rang, the flashers flashed and then in an authoritative male voice, I was told that 'AN EMERGENCY HAS OCCURRED PLEASE EXIT THE BUILDING.  DO NOT TAKE THE ELEVATORS.'

Need better campus safety

Tagged:  •    •

After the tragic events at VT, you think that every college would have made new and better plans to inform students of an emergency. I go to middle tennesee state university and our first day of school was this past monday. The first day of school there was an e-mail sent to multiple staff that said there were multiple bombs throughout the campus.

Berkeley may pay dead people's rent, but Stanford houses impostor students

I published something like this earlier today on Old Lady Syndrome, but it's important enough to note here, too.
