Plans change over the course of a lifetime. My plan for much of my life was to be an Olympian. This wasn't just a silly childhood dream, like wanting to be an astronaut, a teacher, AND a rockstar at the age of six. I was an undefeated athlete at the age of eighteen, with a Big Ten scholarship and a real shot at Olympic glory. But like I said, plans change.
If you have been watching the news recently, you must know that people around the world have been boycotting the Olympics, or protesting against the Olympics. There are many reasons as to why people are taking these actions, and I am one of them. The reason I have decided to boycott this year's Olympics is Burma (now called Myanmar).
I hate that every one seems to have forgotten that it is about the athletes how can someone say even though you have trained for four years a lot of them even more then that.
Today’s news: The Olympic Torch had to be extinguished five times by authorities during chaotic protests in Paris. The Torch Relay in the city was stopped early because of the anti-China protestors. Don’t worry, all you Olympic Flame Fans… the real flame was “kept alive” in a bus while the Torch kept suffering in the screaming crowds.
I have always loved watching the Olympic Games. The idea of so many countries coming together in a neutral spirit of competition is fantastic. However, as the 2008 Olympic Games draw closer, it’s clear that maybe this year isn’t going to be as friendly as past years.
