Many people are put off by the idea of cloned meats. I can understand the kind of mad scientist laboratory scenario that would go through your head when you think of eating a cut of cloned meat. The thought generates many unsavory pictures in ones head mainly because of the lack of understanding of the actual process that happens.
USDA officials have recalled 143 million pounds of beef, enough meat to feed two hamburgers to every man woman and child in the United States, as reported by the Associated Press. A video broadcast across the nation showed sickening and cruel abuse of ill, dying, or crippled cattle at a slaughterhouse associated with the recall.
Whether you are a vegetarian, a vegan, or you eat meat regularly, we all rely on the USDA to keep our food safe to eat. Recent reports have surfaced indicating that they haven’t been doing their job as effectively as we might have hoped.
I know I say this often; it's a great vegetarian catch phrase (though annoying, this I also know--but why is ALL of economics based on the price of meat anyway?): "Meat is Murder!" But when meat has literally killed people, am I so wrong to say that? I think not.
Some would argue that humans are the most evolved creatures on this planet, and therefore we have morally and physically bypassed the need to kill another animal for the sake of eating. I argue that even cauliflower screams when you steam it. It’s important that we are able to see both sides of the story, and be able to agree to disagree.
