Biggest Problem Facing America

People have varied idea of what is the biggest problem in America, today. I was recently asked this question in an interview for a medical program, so I thought I'd share my idea.

Let me explain with a story….

Last summer I joined the local volunteer fire company as a way to give back to my community. One night around mid October my duty crew and I came back from a call and were lounging around the kitchen drinking Gatorade. 60 Minutes was on the TV and they were interviewing Bruce Springsteen.

My lieutenant turns to me and says

In the past I’ve taken issue with the Baby Boomers for a number of reasons: for giving up after Vietnam, for falling for Reaganism, for Kenny G. Lately, though, I find myself having more empathy for the Selfish Generation. For all the mistakes they made in adulthood, they gave a lot in college.

It was my Grandpa’s birthday and I spent four hours away from campus as an alien youth, socializing with a group of foreigners from a planet on the other side of what is being called the largest generation gap since the ‘60s.

Becoming Eligible to Live Life: Social Security

The first Baby Boomer applied for Social Security today.  It is the beginning of a new era... and the fear we had of the time when all the people born after WWII would file for Social Security is finally upon us.
