Shoot 'em up Kill 'em! (the deer, that is)

I live in the heavily populated suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Like all of suburbia, my community is the boundary line between rural and urban America, so I see elements of both. For the past few years, an issue that's been getting a lot of attention in my county is the overabundance of deer.

When I was really young I once watched the movie 'Great Expectations' which contains a scene where a man beats a woman while she screams and pleads for mercy. That scene scarred me and since then domestic abuse has disturbed me greatly.

Recently, I started volunteering at the wildlife rehabilitation center. It’s exciting. Today, I cleaned out the cage of two fawn and gave them more grass. I love deer especially baby deer because they are so awkward when they walk around. These two have the biggest eyes.

Oh PETA, My PETA…..

I still love you, but I’m dealing with some issues I can’t ignore right now. You make me love you and hate you at the same time, and I just can’t sort it all out. Maybe we can make this work, but who knows. I think we need to have a talk before we go any further.

The killing of a non-human animal is not something in and of itself, to which I am opposed. After all, dead animal muscle is a fairly rich and useful source of food for omnivores like most humans, and killing the animal seems to be the most efficient and successful way of obtaining that muscle.

All humans are born with free will, giving each one the ability to commit any flaw or error that he or she so chooses. Humans take great advantage of this freedom of mind, but sadly go overboard by using it in ways that can often be selfish and potentially harmful.
