The Search for Xiaomei

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •

I'm looking for one woman in particular and she could be just about anywhere in China. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack... I'm pretty optimistic about finding her, but I'm running out of ideas. I was hoping to get some suggestions from you guys. I'm about ready to contact a TV station to see if my story is interesting enough, but I'm not so sure.

Melon Leaves Dozens Ill, and 14 Hospitalized

A recent salmonella outbreak has left the government searching for the cause. It is believed to have been started from cantaloupes from a Honduran manufacturer. The government recommends for all citizens to dispose of all cantaloupes from the company Agropecuaria Montelibano.

At this point in time, 50 people have already become sick from the melons, and 14 are left hospitalized.

USDA officials have recalled 143 million pounds of beef, enough meat to feed two hamburgers to every man woman and child in the United States, as reported by the Associated Press. A video broadcast across the nation showed sickening and cruel abuse of ill, dying, or crippled cattle at a slaughterhouse associated with the recall.

Our government and the Department of Agriculture are using cities as large-scale testing grounds for dangerous pesticides and other chemicals. These tests are particularly worrisome given that the populations targeted are not warned (though they are apparently justified in that because the sprayings take place at night).

I am a Meat Eater; and I'm Proud of It: Dispelling the Myths of Meat

Some would argue that humans are the most evolved creatures on this planet, and therefore we have morally and physically bypassed the need to kill another animal for the sake of eating. I argue that even cauliflower screams when you steam it. It’s important that we are able to see both sides of the story, and be able to agree to disagree. I’d like to present to you today the side of the meat eater.
