The Problem with Standardized Testing

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •

With the SAT approaching this Saturday, I have been thinking a lot lately about standardized tests and their importance in college admissions these days. Standardized tests are counting less and less for college admissions lately, and I think that's a good thing. In fact, I firmly believe that colleges should make submission of standardized test scores completely optional for all applicants.

How should I choose a college?

Tagged:  •    •    •

It was the end of Sophmore year and I knew I had a big task ahead of me. My parents had told me it was time to start considering what colleges I might be interested in going to. We went to a book store and bought a college guide that rates schools. Following this my parents helped me narrow a book of thousands of schools to just 40-50 schools. From there on I was on my own.

I'm pro-Equal Rights, so call me racist.

Yesterday I attended a scholarship competition at Central Michigan University. To qualify for the scholarship, you had to have a 3.5 GPA in highschool and a 28 on the ACT. Out of 2000 applicants, 42 are chosen for a full-ride scholarship. It's a great program, I wish more students recieved the scholarship, but that's not my point.
