Don't shoot the messenger,straight facts on Eli Lilly Zyprexa.A.B.C.'s Some fast facts on the Zyprexa controversy chronicled by a patient user.What is it? Major tranquilizer daytime sleeping pill.It acts like the 50 year old Thorazine but with less of the tardive tics,cost ten times more I paid $2.50 a pill.How does it make you so awful fat? Experts say they don't know for sure,my patient opinion is that it just slows you down so much,you don't burn off the calories.(A)  Year 1996 FDA approves Zyprexa for schizophrenia (at first,later on for mania) which is only about 1% and 3% of the population to lessen delusional hallucinations of schizophrenia.The drug goes on to become Lilly's top seller at $4.2 billion a year.How does a drug with such a small patient market get to be the the world's 7th largest drug sale? Lilly denies it was promoted "off label" and pushed on doctors by thousands of Lilly drug reps for FDA unapproved usage to non schizophrenic patients like myself with PTSD. (B)  During the 4 years 1996-2000 that I took Zyprexa,Lilly is alleged to have had an ongoing cover up of critical doctor feedback,that the drug has up to a ten times greater incident of causing diabetes.Finally in 2003 the FDA requires a 'black box'  warning label of these potential complications.(C)  2006-07 Eli Lilly lawyers spin a 'promise' of a whopping $1.2 billion compensatory settlement for victims like myself who will now have a shortened zyprexa diabetic life.Lilly reports plant closings and employee layoffs in a less favorable political climate and denies that it has been poisoning for profit a mentally challenged patient group less capable of advocating for itself.Daniel Haszard www.zyprexa-victims.com  Read More »

Do you have a stake in the Lilly pharmaceutical company? Their top selling atypical anti-psychotic Zyprexa has been a profit and news generator with a lot of controversy.As someone who was (1996-2000) wrongfully prescribed the costly Zyprexa 'off label' for my PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) i can tell you that all it does for patients like myself who are not hearing voices and delusional is make you unproductive zombied out and sleep a lot. Zyprexa was promoted indiscriminately {Viva Zyprexa} with much glamour as an 'anti-psychotic' panacea for patients with psychological trauma and other issues.There is only a narrow range of patients with schizophrenia accompanied by delusional hallucinations or for agitated manic patients who are FDA approved for good reason.The doctors at my clinic in Bangor Maine say that they "stopped dispensing Zyprexa some time ago and switched to Seroquel and Risperdal as they are less prone to diabetes".I think this is telling,no matter how much press coverage or court action is in the future for Lilly.What is going to hurt sales are doctors who have the final say,will only give out Zyprexa as a PRN to patients who are in acute psychotic episode.There is no way now that a $4.2 billion dollar a year Zyprexa sales market will hold up.I got diabetes in 2000 from my zyprexa usage and have sent 3 certified letters to Lilly management in the past year demanding a reasonable damage settlement.Don't forget that they initiated the $700 million Zyprexa settlement offer a couple of years ago,the problem is claimants are having to fork over half their payout for various fees.I now have over 50,000 pages up exposing the Zyprexa controversy and make more every day that Lilly stonewalls me.Happy new year!  Read More »

The FDA this week is considering warning labels on antidepressant medications.Anti-depressants do have their side effects,but it's reasonable to accept that anyone depressed enough to seek out the medication,already has an elevated suicide risk.So keep an eye on them for safety and let the depressed soul know they are loved.There is a narrow group of depressed patients that have a 'chemical imbalance' that will be corrected by a drug that will increase the supply of neuro-transmitters that make you feel good.It's normal for most people to get the blues occasionally then snap out of it.Some mental health clients have genuine deep clinical depression and drugs like Eli Lilly Prozac can be a miracle.  Read More »
