Art Teacher Kicked Out of School For Nude Pictures, or Why Our Nation is Dumb

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

CNN.com has an interesting story involving an art school teacher who was escorted out of her classroom because the school found nude "art" photos of her on flickr.com. In her defense, she claims that they are art and that she felt she wasn't doing anything wrong. Why anyone would think she's in the wrong here is beyond me. Art is expression and the body expresses. Simple as that. I think the real problem here is the school. Wouldn't they rather have the kids looking at tasteful "pieces of art" rather than porn pictures that objectify humans? What is SO wrong with nakedness? It can't be to protect the children, because they've already seen naked bodies on the internet. Most high school boys already know the differences between the various types of porn out there.  Read More »

Critical Thinking is Creationism, or Maybe Not.

Tagged:  •    •    •

I was just surfing the net this morning and found this story from the AP WIRE about how conservatives are trying to get creationism back into some textbooks, citing it as "critical thinking." Having learned them both in my high school career, I really don't see what the big issue is. We've got two points of view on our origins, so why can't we learn them both and decide for ourselves which to believe? I believe the only way this issue will ever get resolved is if these people stop worrying about changing the textbooks and maybe find some way to teach both points of view. After all, being well-rounded in your education can't be a bad thing.  Read More »

Craig from Craigslist is Right. Keep the Internet Neutral!

Craiglist Guy - Keep the Internet Neutral
Other Guy - Updating the Creaky Internet

Read those two articles and see where you stand. Personally, I think the internet should be neutral. By charging more for faster services, the ISPs will force companies like Google and Amazon to raise their prices which in turn will be bad for the consumer. Also, if the ISPs can charge for various online services, we'll find ourselves paying money out the ass, just because we decided we wanted to share some of our self made content over the net. I've been following this issue for awhile and just read that the fight for net neutrality is pretty much lost. The big companies have their first victory.  Read More »

HH0 Is Kind of a Gas, in My Opinion

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

I was reading one of my favorite blogs again, dvorak.org/blog and came across this video from YouTube concerning turning H20 into HH0 Gas. The idea here is that by doing this, we can create vehicles that are less dependant on gasoline, which will save us all money in the long wrong. I'm a little skeptical, personally, as I've heard about a few of these ideas to get rid of gasoline with water. Where have those other ideas gone? Do we even hear about them anymore? I'm all for a new energy source for vehicles, but come on! Will this actually do or mean anything?  Read More »

Aparrently, Marijuana is NOT Cancerous.

Tagged:  •

I stumbled across this Washington Post article while reading dvorak.org/blog. In it, a study concludes that the danger of cancer from smoking Marijuana is almost non-existent and that smoking cigarettes is more dangerous to your health. Donald Tashkin, a pulmonologist who has studied the effects of Marijuana, said he was surprised at the findings. Perhaps we can let people smoke away in peace now and deal with more imporant issues.  Read More »

Sex Films Question Roles of Porn at Cannes

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •

I used to live in an environment where Sex was taboo. Well, not really taboo, but just something that you really only talked about in hushed whispers. You also never really participated in it unless you were planning to have kids. Yes, I used to be a part of an extremely right wing church environment. My big question is, what's the big deal with sex? Why is it such a problem today? Honestly, to be human is to be sexual. Men and women are meant to enjoy themselves to the full, and sex is definitely enjoyable. Is there anything wrong with the human body that it needs to be covered up?  Read More »

Stealing Lenses, or How I Became Interested in The Davinci Code!

Tagged:  •

This isn't a post regarding something on a national level, but it's very important to me. I work at the local movie theater here in sunny Grand Forks, ND and had the privilege of piecing together the movie The Davinci Code. Just today I happen upon a Friday or Saturday edition of the city paper and find out that twenty lenses from the theater had been stolen on the morn of the movie's premiere and that the theater had to shut down as a result. Interestingly enough, this was found out at least thirty to forty minutes AFTER protesters of the movie showed up. Thus, it was fairly obvious they didn't have anything to do with it. Still, the coincidence can't be completely ignored.  Read More »

A Supposed Ex-Nazi Removed From Museum. Let's Never Forget the Past!

Tagged:  •    •

This guy was brought over after World War II and he "supposedly" did good things for the U.S. Aerospace program. Then, he was memorialized in a museum. Good stuff. Except for the part where he was a Nazi and "supposedly" did bad things to concentration camp prisoners. Because of that, it was motioned to get him removed from the museum and out of the public eye. After all, we shouldn't be glorifying people who "supposedly" did experiments on prisoners in Germany.  Read More »
