Never look a gift horse in the mouth

Tagged:

Everyone knows the phrase "Never look a gift horse in the mouth".  At one time all I knew about it was it meant not to ask questions about a gift given and to just take it. And I knew it was Greek. However I know the mythology of the Greeks now that I am older and I debate the wisdom of the phrase. The phrase refers to the Trojan Horse. For those of you who don't know the myth...  Read More »

Freshmen Friday

Tagged:

Freshmen Friday. In my experience some people have heard about it and some people haven't. I first learned about it in a DODDS (a military school on base for military kids) school in Germany. Some people in KY had heard of it, not really anyone in WI. I wonder where all this rumor has traveled. In some schools it's a rumor but unsurprisingly it's not a rumor in some other schools.  Read More »

Human remains found at WTC from 9/11/01

I'm sorry but this is wrong. I read today (sorry don't have the exact article but you can probably find it on msn.com) that human remains were found right near where they set up the podium for the 9/11 families to read off the names of their loved ones who died in the attacks. I realize that all the remains aren't going to be found, especially only in a 9 month period after the attacks. But as I was looking over the numbers it shocked me. I hadn't realized how many people still didn't have their loved one's remains back for proper burial. Less than half I believe the article said, don't have their loved one's bones with them.  Read More »

TAG!... Your BANNED?!?!?!?

A Mass. grade school has banned Tag and all other unsupervised 'chase' games because they are afraid they are going to get sued because the kid got hurt. Now i'm not sure about you but I think that's just dumb. We've been playing unsupervised games like tag for years, we all did it when we were little. The next generation is trying to now and suddenly were going to tell them "no"? When we got hurt we just nursed our bruises, got up and got back in the game. The kids are going to play anyway, whether you ban them or not is my opinion. Most of them grew up with the game around them, and there little, they live for fun. I say let them have their fun.  Read More »

Msn/RP Groups

Tagged:

For those who don't know what RP means... RP = role-playing

I don't know how many (if any) people on here are also on msn groups. Or that RP in general. I know I do and alot. It helps creativity and to see what some of the other people come up with gives you inpiration. It's also just fun and a good stress reliever. I'm on there usually after school (right ebfore I get on this site actually). If you have never tried RPing that I would suggest you at least try it. The articles about technology are right... you also make good friends on the websites. You can RP animals, humans, fantasy animals, magic, pretty much anything you want. I know a big difference from this site that is more serious and down-to-earth.  Read More »

Hospital Error

Tagged:

Hospital Error. Whether with drugs or with anything else there seems to be more of it. I found an article on msn (see below for link) about a hospital who temparily paralized an 18 year old mother by giving her a painkiller 10 times faster than intended. In the past the hospital also killed three premature babies by giving them lethal doses. A hospital in MO said my aunt's ultrasound showed twins. When it came time for the birth the doctor had one come and not another. He went inside to look for the other but it turns out there wasn't one. So my aunt had been expecting twins when there was only one child. It turns out (at least this is what the doctor said) that she had so much water in her that he saw the baby's reflection. Doesn't explain why he 'heard' two hearbeats... but no one's perfect I guess. Anyother errors that anyone wants to share? I don't know all of them but I enjoy learning about them. They were informative and warn you about what to watch out for sometimes.  Read More »

Guns in schools

I know there is at least one other blog about this at the moment but this is addressing a semi-different issue with some of the same facts. Just bare with me please.

Army Strong vs. Army Of One

The army is changing their logo from "Army of One" to "Army Strong". They think it will help with the recruitment problems they have been having. What I do not understand is why change it at all? Army of One I understood. When in the army you become an army of one, you train as a team but also as an individual. I don't get Army Strong, does anyone else? Or anyone have a guess to what it could mean? Will it help with recruitment just to change the logo? Personally I don't think it will, I'd rather they stayed with Army of One or found something better than Army Strong which doesn't even make since to me.  Read More »
