Now I lay me down to sleep is an organization where volunteer professional photographers take pictures of families with their baby that they will only have a few minutes or hours with because they pass away minutes or hours after birth. They take a lifetime's worth of pictures in hours or minutes. Those pictures do help in healing, from what I have heard. I have seen these pictures and videos and my heart breaks for those families. I could never imagine the grief they feel. This is the article on their website: Read More »

Painted Pregnant Bellies
Yes, it is true. Pregnant women actually do paint their bellies or have someone else do it . It may sound odd, but they actually look great. If I had known about it (or thought about it) during my last pregnancy, I would have let my 11 year old daughter (who was eight then) loose on my belly with the paint. She would have loved it and would have felt more like she was part of the pregnancy, though I did try to include her as much as possible in the pregnancy. She went to doctor's and sonogram appointments when she was not at school and she would talk to her sister in the womb. She even made her a card for Christmas while I was pregnant with her. She was and is a loving big sister (not to say they don't argue at times, heehee) Anyway, I digress. Here is some information about pregnant belly painting and a picture. Read More »

The Fabulous Ms. M
I have known Ms. M for almost 11 years, since my 11 year old daughter was one year old. I can't say enough wonderful things about her. She is a friend and mentor to me. I can go to her for advice on anything. She is always smiling, and if she is not, you know you have done something wrong. She loves children and loves working with children. Our pastor once said of her that she will not be hard to find in Heaven, because all of the children will be with her. I really believe that. I have never met a person who does not like Ms. M. She is also a college English teacher. That is how I met her. I was in two of her English classes. It is very obvious that she loves to teach and loves her students. She also has a great love for the Lord. When she speaks of her children and grandchildren, her face just lights up. Ms. M is so wonderful. I am so glad and so blessed to know her. Ms. M., I love you as my friend, my teacher, and my mentor. Thanks for all you do in my life and thank God you are in my life.

In Memory of Ms. Butler
Ms. Butler was my psychology teacher for two semesters. I had a great time in her classes. She once told a story in class about a friend of hers who once was startled by a snake while she was going to the bathroom. Since then, I have always looked in the toilet before I use the restroom. Later, she told me she quit telling that story. She had a great sense of humor and as one of her students, I could tell she loved to teach and loved all of her students. She spent time outside of class talking to me in private on her own time talking to me about the issues I had with ex, especially being a victim of domestic violence. She helped me more than she ever knew. And though it has been a while since I have seen her, I will never forget her. She lost her battle with cancer on December 1st 2006. At her memorial service, someone said to her family, look around you, this is how many people who came out today to show how much they love Linda (Ms. Butler). To her family, I loved her as a teacher and a person. She touched my heart, and taught me a lot. I know you may never see this post, but I do hope the funeral home staff member gave you the poem I wrote for her. This is the poem I wrote for Ms. Butler. Rest in peace Ms. Butler, you will never be forgotten. Read More »

Thanksgiving Thief
I saw on the news a couple of days before Thanksgiving that someone stole the van that belonged to the mom of a special needs child in the Dallas area. The mom is a single mom, and she sold jewelry and furniture to get this van that was specially equipped for her son's needs. There was special equipment in the van for her son and some of his toys. Her purse was in it also. Why I call this post Thanksgiving thief is because not only did the thief take their van, the family had to change their Thanksgiving plans because they did not have a vehicle equipped with the equipment that her son needs. I hope that either the person who stole the van leaves it close to where it can be found and unharmed or a generous donor steps in and replaces the van. I would do it if I could. I also hope the news has an update on that family. If they don't, I will email them and ask them what happened to that family.

Would you like sauce with that camera?
I just saw on Cable News Network (CNN) that a couple bought what they thought was a Sony digital camera at a store. When they got it home, they realized there was a jar of spaghetti sauce in the package instead. When they took it back to the store, the store was not sympathetic at all to their plight . Sony is going to give them the digital camera they paid for. Way to go Sony! I do wonder about the package the digital camera came in. Read More »

Prayer in School
I know this is a controversial issue and I am not condemning anyones views on it. I have heard over and over about how students get in trouble when they do pray in school and that I disagree with. Just like students have the right to not pray in school they should have the right to pray in school. I have heard this (though myself I have not done any studies on it myself), that when required prayer was taken out of schools, that kids treated each other worse, the school violence rate grew, and disrespect for teachers became worse. I am not saying there is a corelation between prayer being taken out of school, and the rise in the behaviors I mentioned, but it does appear to me to be more than an interesting coincidence. I do not think children should be forced to pray in school, as I mentioned before, but I do think that kids should have the right to pray in school and that something needs to change to fix all the problems that are going on in schools today.

Thanksgiving Thankfulness
I know I am a few days late, but I think Thanksgiving needs to be more of a day of Giving thanks. I am guilty of not being thankful enough, but I have so much to be thankful for. I am thankful for:
The Lord and his love, blessings, and forgiveness
My husband
My daughters my husband and I are raising
My birth daughter
The family that is raising her
My sister and her children Read More »
