Materialistic Values Just Not Cutting It

Tagged:  •    •    •

Everyday I see girls walking around my school, just hoping to get the attention of a football player. They are sporting their designer handbag, sunglasses, and jeans, but could care less about the education they are receiving. Let's face it, people are more concerned with the way they look than the way they live their life and what they accomplish. It gets to a point of where goals don't exist and dreams are shattered.  Read More »

Love at First Sight?

Tagged:  •

We've all heard the saying "It was love at first sight" but now I tend to be hearing the saying "Lust at first sight" more often. Honestly, I think that you  can have a connection with someone on an emotional level when you just meet them.

It could be a spark or butterflies in your stomach, but you get this feeling when that certain person walks by. Sure, you are probably physically attracted to them, but I think that there is more to that. It's one thing to say that someone is hot and that you think they are attractive, but it's another to say, I don't know what it is but I like them already.  Read More »

Limitations For High School Coaches

Tagged:  •    •

It's 6th hour, which means the baseball and softball teams will hit the field, the volleyball team will hit the court, and the track team will run to the track. The athletes will train hard so that they will be able to pull off victories for their school. The fans attend the competitions to see what the athletes have accomplished, but they often don't realize what is going on behind the scenes....with the coaches.  Read More »

Internet Safety... A must in Today's Society

Millions of teens are now a part of the website Myspace. I even have one myself, but I watch what I post on my webpage. I realize that there are risks and I am fully aware and on the look out. I refuse to add people I don't know and I try to keep my profile lowkey.

But many teens are posting their emails, phone numbers, screen names, and are adding people they don't even know. The sad part is, they think that nothing will happen to them. But one day, it could. With all of the crimes and creeps out on the streets these days, people need to start being safer of who they are talking to on the internet and what they are posting. It only takes one post of an email to have a stalker for life. With just one thing of personal information, someone can find out more about you than you would want them to know.  Read More »

Is the Life you Liver Really your own?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •

In today's society, kids are easily pulled away from the environment of learning and they often get distracted with drugs, alcohol, and sex. Some kids work hard to receive an A and others are fine with just barely passing. But are the ones who get the higher grades always happy and doing what they want to do?

So many kids get forced into things because their parents feel it will provide a good future for them. Now this is not the case with everyone, but I know of a few personally that have taken place. For example, my friend ran track, not because she wanted to, but because her mom TOLD her she HAD to. This girl was not very happy and wanted to do other stuff, like cheerleading. She finally got to the point of where she wasn't happy anymore and got into partying and drinking. The mother finally realized that maybe she shouldn't try to live her life through her child, but to rather let her kid make her own decisions. That's the way we learn in life right?  Read More »

World Baseball Classic bigger than World Series?

Tagged:  •

If you don't know already, there is a World Baseball Classic taking place right now, and the championship will hit your screen March 20th. Sad part is, the USA will not be playing in the finals after a heartbreaking defeat by Mexico.

The game was pretty much in controversy when the 1st base umpire signaled a ground rule double when Mexico actually hit a homerun. The crowd booed for the rest of the game.... until Mexico took the lead. Most people took pity on the Mexican team and wished they would win. When the three outs were made in the ninth inning to end the game, the members of Team Mexico ran on the field in excitement. It was only the quarterfinals but you got the feeling that they just won the championship. Team USA just sat in the dugout in complete awe and couldn't budge .  Read More »

College Tuition continues to rise and make us broke

Tagged:  •

In a class of 30 students at my school, 20 students planned on attending the local community college, 8 planned on staying in-state at a university, 1 wanted to go out of state, and 1 refused to endure yet another year of school.

When asked how these students would pay for college, no one knew the right answer. Personally, I received a scholarship, but only to cover 1/4 of my total costs. So if the government wants students to go to college so much, then why does tuition keep rising at a steep accent?  Read More »

The Patriot Act taking away our freedoms?

The Patriot Act was recently renewed by the government. This act enables the government to screen calls as a means of protection. Honestly, I think that it is messing with our freedom of speech and privacy. I know that the US has been receiving terror threats and we are more cautious of our actions, but I really don't see the point of screening our calls.

If someone wanted to bomb our country they could do it in a heartbeat, just like we could to someone else. Screening a phone call is not going to help it. Besides, the other countries know that we are doing these things because we publicize it so much. I mean think about it, it's always on the news and it's televised on like every news channel. These other countries aren't stupid and they know how to terrorize and scare us some other way.  Read More »
