Looks Matter...Deal With It.

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

Ok, the first time I typed this whole post, it got deleted. So, poop.

Anyway, of course, the day after I read the "Looks ARE Everything" post, we discuss it in Sociology class. Well, no crap. Looks matter.

Deal with it. I can't make it much simpler.
Is it fair? Maybe. Maybe not.  Read More »

Injustice to Our Kids

Upon returning from a bloody war in Iraq, mentally and physically beat up, soldiers were put into Walter Reed Hospital.
Ok, fair enough. Soldiers should recieve mental and physical care when they return home from war.

Walter Reed was no normal hospital...Walter Reed was moldly, broken down, full of mice, mice droppings and cockroaches.  Read More »

My Thoughts on How to Make It Through College...

Tagged:  •

Ok, so I was thinking of some ways I got through my first year...

1. Make friends with your roommates. Not like best friends, but it can be good to go home and vent about your day to someone who cares.  Read More »

How Can you be...

...so close-minded in a public school.
So, in my sociology class we were having an open-forum discussion about homosexuality.
My professor was merely posing a question: So what, truly, difference does it make? If someone is good at their job, does it matter?"
Some girl said my professor was forcing her beliefs onto her and the two of them argued for a bit.  Read More »

Student Government Elections

So, the SGA elections are this week.
I'm all for (effective) student government...and at my college it's a big deal. Both the president and vice pres. recieve $18,000 salary and $12.5 million dollars to throw around for school improvement projects, clubs, etc.

Big deal.

So anyway, I'm all for campagining. Signs, speeches, websites, fliers, newspaper articles.  Read More »

Possible Life in Space?

Theorectically speaking, I mean.

I mean, there are an infinite number of galaxies in the universe. Practically every star has a few planets orbiting it, much like our star, the Sun has a few planets orbiting it.  Read More »

Elections and Money

I just read an article on BBC news (the American part) about Hilary Clinton's run in the '08 presidental election. You can read the article for yourself.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6283165.stm

The main point of the article is that Hilary has enormous financial backing.
"It would be foolish to dismiss a woman who sits on an enormous war chest..."  Read More »

Goin' Vegan!

Tagged:

So, my fiance and I are going vegan.
Of course, this is not a one step thing...go to bed and wake up vegan.  A lot of reading has to be done and learning and stuff like that.  And that's ok with us.

Now, we aren't those crazy PETA people that wrap themselves in saran wrap tp protest animal slaughter.  I'm all for animal rights and fair treatment of animals....  No, I know that meat is a big part of most people's diets...same with meat and cheese and eggs and stuff.
No, we are going vegan for the health benefits.

Cattle, chickens, pigs, fish etc are pumped with growth hormones and steroids and all kinds of yummy stuff.  A lot of foods are stuff with all kinds of nasty things like high fructose corn syrup (fake sugar syrup) and all kinds of artificial dyes and stuff that is not meant to be eaten.  (Dyes just stick to your fat cells....for a few years....ew.)

Going vegan means we would eat only things that came from the earth.  Don't get me wrong, I believe animals came from the earth too, but all the nasty things they are pumped with...unappetizing at best.  And unnatural.  And bad for you.

Besides, you can get all your protein and vitamins from veggies and stuff...and it is all natural...nothing bad.  No trans fat, no saturated fat, no syrup or dyes.

I'm ok with going vegan...that's ok with me...as long as the food is yummy (friend tempeh!).

No, I am not an activist or anything, I just want to be healthy.
