This is a paper I wrote for my World Religions class...the paper to discuss our personal beliefs abotu religion.

I decided to take the World Religion class in order to get a deeper understanding of multiple religions; this understanding is important to studying both of my majors- anthropology and history. I find the study of religion interesting, the strength of faith in man, the ways men manipulate religion for their own use, the origins of belief, etc.

Ok, just moved into an apartment with 2 random roommates. Neither are here often. One won't talk to me at all and will go out of her way to ignore me. The other is nice, if its just us talking.

So, Saturday night before classes start. I've been up since 8 am because of a meeting...I fell asleep around 1030 pmish.
So at about midnight, I get woken up by like 5-10 SCREAMING, DRUNK-ASS KIDS! Like, yelling, juping up and down, running down the hallway outside and ramming into our front door...
IT'S AN APARTMENT COMPLEX! there are at least 12 other people in this building. I know it's college, I know classes haven't started, but why do people not have any respect for anyone?!?!?
Of course, my room is on the first floor of the apartment, right next to the kitchen/living room.

Here's the scoop:
The petition
Our fallen Hokie Family members deserve to be laid to rest and have final respects paid to them with dignity. Fred Phelps and the WBC are planning to protest at ALL the funerals they can find. This is UNACCEPTABLE and we, the signed, express our desire for action to be taken against the WBC to prevent them from doing so.

Why do people no longer accept responsibility for ANYTHING?
Parents not for their kids...a parent would just as soon medicate their kids instead of spend time with them.

People can sue mcDonalds for being fat.
People can sue McDonalds for spilling coffee on themselves (use a freakin' cup holder).

Ok, I'll admit....the gay marriage debate has been beaten to death, more than Anna Nicole's paternity test.

BUT...today, in the Science Times section of the New York Times (I don't have copies, look it up if you don't believe me...don't want to type up all the articles, don't have an NYT membership), there were several articles that suggested that gayness is INHERENT, not learned.

This really irks me.
REALLY irks me.

Are we to nice on our kids? Do we sacrifice too much for "high self esteem?"
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for positive self image, but how much is too much?

We give our kids prizes "just for trying." We make excuses for our kids when they screw up. How will they learn?

Ok, so I know I just did a blog about college, but there is always more to say...
