Nobel Prize in Chemistry

According to the BBC, this year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Professor Gerhard Ertl of Germany. It was a shock to Ertl because the Nobel Prize for Physics went to another German, Peter Grunberg (who shares the award with French physicist Albert Fert). Ertl is a professor of physical chemistry at the Fritz-Haber Institute at the Max Planck Society in Berlin.  Read More »

Gore's Nobel Prize

The BBC published an article about Al Gore winning the Nobel Peace Prize entitled, “Gore says prize must spur action.” Gore and the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Bush Vetoes Child Healthcare Bill

Bush vetoed a proposed healthcare bill meant to expand children’s health coverage. It is only the fourth time that Bush has used his veto power, says the BBC. Bush vetoed the bill because he felt that it was inconsistent with the intended nature of the bill. He felt that it would cause people whose children were insured to take advantage of the bill, causing greater expense.  Read More »

The article Q&A with Sputnik appeared on October 3, 2007 on the BBC. It gives a brief history of Sputnik and tells of its affects on the U.S. and the rest of the world.
