What's going to be for sale on Ebay next?

A few years ago a man sold his soul, a few months ago there was an entire town for sale, and now buyers can bid on Fort Montgomery a civil war era fort that never saw any action. The top bid at the moment is $1million but the reserve price stands at just under $9.9million! But the owners would not give an exact price. It's truly amazing what can be found on Ebay, from french fries shaped like Abe Lincoln's head to actual fighter planes!  What's the craziest thing you've found on Ebay?  I wonder how much stolen property goes through Ebay on the average day? Its really opened up possibilities for criminals to move their products and not get caught. What do you all think about Ebay? Is it harmless or a real problem?  Read More »

Was the three gorges dam worth it?

As you may have recently heard the three gorges dam is now complete in China. This dam has a power output of 49 billion kilo-watt hours! But was it worth it? Over 1 million people have had to relocate with at least another 80,000 before its said and done. Some estimates report that nearly 1200 villages and 2 major cities have been abandoned and had to be rebuilt. Those people forced to move were promised compensation and new homes but it has been found that much of the money has been embezzeled by corrupt officials. One also has to wonder about the ecological impact of such a project, with a price tag of $25bn which is supposed to be a very very conservative figure, what do you think about it? Will it ever be worth the costs?  Read More »

Should Pit Bulls be banned?

I know that in some areas people are not allowed to own Pit Bulls, in other areas they have to be muzzled whenever their outside. What is your take on this? Do you think the problem is in the breed or does it depend on how its raised and cared for? Can Pits be truly safe to have around kids? I've owned a Pit myself and remeber getting upset whenever people would talk bad about the breed. I loved that dog and thought that it was just as safe as any other, until it broke a log chain and ran the length of a football field passing up multiple people just to attack and put 18 stiches in a cops leg!!!! Yeah thats right, it attacked a  cop. We never had a problem with that dog until that day, there was a wreck about a hundred yards from our house and a state cop showed up, the dog was out on the chain which we thought was impossible to break but it just freaked out and went directly after that cop. It wasn't trained to do stuff like that, if thats what your thinking. I guess it just didn't like the lights or maybe the uniform, whatever it was it made that dog go psycho! Anyway we of course had to put it down after that and I can't see myself ever own another one, in my opinion and thats all it is, their just too unpredictable! You just don't know how their going to respond to stuff. What do you all think?  Read More »

Are good books being read anymore?

I went to a public school, I remember reading a little bit of Shakespere, I remember Beowolf, I remember the Odyssey. I didn't take advanced classes in school, didn't even like to read but now I love to read, and since college I've read a lot of the great literary works and I think thats where its really at. I don't think kids and teens are reading books that will really challenge them to view the world their living in. What do you think? What kinds of books did you read in school? Do you think the stuff people are reading these days really challenges our ideas about life, society, happiness?  Read More »

Is the hole in the ozone layer shrinking?

According to Japanese scientist' it is, in fact it may be gone by 2050! Supposedly its shrinking due to less chloroflurocarbons and other ozone depleting gases in the atmosphere. At the moment the hole is at its largest, but they think it will start shrinking be 2020. What do you all think about this? Do you think it will shrink? Will it repair itself? Or is it more like once its gone its gone? Have we done this much in the line of stopping our polluting ways?  Read More »

Thoreau: A great American?

I find it interesting that Henry David Thoreau is often thought of as a great American Idealist, writer, among other things. Why is this? His writings go against everything that Americans hold dear! He's more like the anti- american!  Now I'm not bashing him actually I think he was really on to something, my point is that we think of him as one of our great thinkers yet his line of thinking was very different then anything we've ever seen in America. For example:  Read More »

Carbon Dioxide: We call it life?

Can you believe the nerve of some people, apparently their is a advertising campaign about to begin run by the conservative competitive enterprise institute to counter the threats of posed by the world wide climate change. One advertisement shows a little girl blowing away a dandelion while the announcer says, "They call it pollution, we call it life."  These ads challange liberal thinking about green house gases being pollutants saying what king of world would we have without them! Its basically saying that without the machines and vehicles that make those gases in the first place we wouldn't have gotten as far technologically as we have. So we should accept the risk because its worth it. What do you all think about this? Personally I'm sure that since we have had the technology to get to space that we have the technology to create safe cleaner burning engines, theirs just less money to be made on them so their kept from us.  What do you all think about these ads?  And this issue in general? Do they make a good point?  Read More »
