How do Christian's justify the death penalty or killing in the name of God?

First off I want to say that I'm not anti-religious or trying to pick on Christianty, it just so happens that in America it is the predominant religion. For centuries Christians have waged war and murdered thousands if not millions of people in the name of God. How can this be? I've read the book, especially the words in red, why is it that even after the new testament was written christians still murdered and continue to murder in the name of God? That's how Christianity was spread to most parts of the world, not through love and understanding but through violence, domination and murder. And I know, everything was barbaric in the old days, but this still continues today very much so through the Death penalty, which the majority of Americans still approve of, and through this war on terrorism. The Bible says, "thou shalt not kill" and Jesus said in the beattitudes, "turn the other cheek", "love your enemies". So how do Christian's justify the war? They knocked down the towers and killed thousands in the name of God because in their sects belief it was called for. When did God tell Christians to fight back? When did he say get revenge? When did he say "killem all, I'll sort them out!". The answer is never at least not in the new testament.  Read More »

Prayer in School

Tagged:  •

I know this is a very controversial subject, so why don't we discuss it, reasonably. I have listened to the opinions of religious conservatives  for quite some time now and have come to the conclusion that most of these people don't really know what the argument at hand really is. People have been telling me that the government shouldn't stop children from praying in school, they say the government is ovestepping its boundaries. One person told me we came here to escape religious persecution and now the governments trying to make us go underground to pray.  Read More »

Boycotting Oil Companies is pointless

I have recieved several emails recently from people saying that we should all agree to go for a week without buying gas. They think that will send a strong message to oil companies that we're serious about getting lower gas prices. Well in my opinion it would be a waste of time first off it would be nearly impossible to pull enough people together to make a difference, second they would have to fill their tanks just prior to their boycott so whats the difference. And third, even if hundred of thousands of people did this, sure it would hurt the companies for a few days but as soon as the strike was over oil companies would sell mass amounts in one day! Instead of blaming them I tend to think we need to blame ourselves, we need to take responsibility for the kinds of vehicles we buy here in America. We are such a gluttonous society that we have to have the biggest, fastest, most fancy vehicles. If we want to change things in America we need to stop trying to change the companies and change ourselves. Companies only cater to what we want and desire, so we need to boycott SUV's, Big useless trucks, and sports cars. We need to start demanding flex fuel vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and fuel cell technology. Its not the oil companies that need changed its the car manufacturers that are supplying us with huge, expensive, dangerous, flashy monstrocities the the Hummers, etc.  Read More »
