I've been reading a lot about how every American should learn a foreign language and about the English/Spanish national language debate. English is the only national language. Being a cell phone owner, I'm thoroughly addicted to it. I love my phone and text messaging is a daily thing for me. Even during class. But I understand that it is distracting not only for the teachers but its incredibly easy for students to pay more attention to their phones than to teachers.  Read More »

My algebra class drives me insane. Its the only regular class out of the day and six out of 25 kids turn in their homework and are passing. Okay I don't care if you fail. But when the grade sheet is passed around and I see 'teachers pet' with an arrow pointing to my grade, that makes me mad.  Read More »

Being involved in school means signing a responsiblity contract to keep grades at the minimum 2.0 GPA (some clubs, such as student council, have it at 3.0).  To stay eligible you are entitled to ONE F. So when half the band is going up to the band director to tell him they can't go on a trip because they're ineligible, it stumps me. How hard is it to get all C's?  Read More »

After seeing the movie Freedom Writers, I was totally taken aback at how Erin Gruwell changed all of those kids perspectives on life. I was inspired to read the book and - as always - it was more insightful and carried more information on the group's achievements and obstacles. They talked a lot about prejudism towards the "below average" students and it got me thinking.  Read More »
