The Rainforest

I just came across some very disturbing news.  The rainforest which contains half of the worlds cures for illnesses are almost gone.  Every SECOND 1.5 million acres are destroyed.  At this in 40 years the rainforest will be gone! This is in our lifetime!!! This is devastating to thousands of species of animals and plants.  40 years.  That is very soon.  Did you know that one pond in Brazil contains more species of fish than all the rivers in Europe combined? We need to be very concerned about hte enviornment.  This is our wake up call.  If you don't have one of those new fancy energy saving lightbulbs one.  RECYCLE it can make a  huge difference.  Some highschools are now going paperless.  Everything is electronic which cuts down on so much paper saving things like the rainforest which some scientists believe holds the cure for cancer!

Generation X

Tagged:  •

My generation is looked upon as one of the most unmotivated and troubling generations to come.  I suppose that is why we were given the name generation X.  If you truley think about it.  Our generation is one of the most motivated to date.  We are fighting to make a difference in this world, maybe in a different way than what is usually done but we are.  Go back to the 60's, it wasn't even accepted to have a friend of the opposite race.  Now, we have made great strides.  I can not say that racism is a thing of the past, but the progress we have made is great.  We are one of the most opinionated generations and maybe the reason we are looked down upon is because we don't agree with some of the ideas of the old men in government today.  But the pierced noses and punk rock and gangster rap music does not define my generation.  We are more open with ourselves in society than when are parents were are age.  Coming out of the closet isn't AS major as it was.  I recently mentioned to my mom about how many gay and lesbian students were at my school.  She was amazed she couldn't and wouldn't believe me that there could me more than one student.  Times have changed we are more accepting than any generation of the past.  We have different view but who's to say change isn't bad?

Just for the record

Tagged:  •

Just for the record.  The fact that I am a virgin does not mean I am a prude, or ugly, or desperate, and it deffinitly does not mean that I am a tease!  For me this is a personal decision.  I made the decision because I am a christian and I want to save it for the right person.  Is that prudish? With all the risks out there already it's the safest choice.  It is hard to trust people.  In general people don't let their gaurd down easily.  To let someone in completly and truely love them and want to lose your virginity to them is huge.  So even if I did not choose to wait till marriage for my morals, I wouldn't want to worry about what is going to happen after the fact.  It is a common fact that everyone will remember they're first time, even if they don't want to.  I don't want to regret my first time because my heart gets broken, or because things changed between me and that person.  Not having that experience makes it easier to move on.  Does that make me a tease?  To be honest I think about it...but who doesn't?

What happened to the whole everyone is equal concept?

My subject today is gay and lesbain rights.  I'm not talking about marriage.  I'm going a little past that.  The right for gay and lesbian couples to adopt.  Why shouldn't they? Some people say it's better for kids to have a mother and a father.  What about divorced couples? Or worse when a parent dies?  I will grant you that those are very different situations but it is just to show that although father and mother may be ideal to some, it's not the majority of America right now even with out gay and lesbian parents.  For those that do think a father and mother is better, don't you think that parents are better than no parents at all?  I would rather have a kid have parents that love them than for he or she to sit in a orphanage or bounce around from one foster home to another until they are 18.
