Global warming... it's an important issue.

Go to www.climatecrisis.net to find out ways to help reduce global warming and carbon emissions. I think this is an important thing to do as 1) human beings who have to live on this Earth and who might have children who will have to live on this Earth who will have children...etc 2) as Christians taking care of something that God has given us to take care of. Why are we hurting the Earth that God created? Isn't that kind of a slap in the face of God? He created all the beautiful things we see, yet we take it for granted all the time. We, as humans and (if you're a Christian) Christians need to consider changing habits and things to help reduce carbon emissions and other things that hurt the environment. The website I mentioned should have some ways to help. Write a letter to a Senator or Representative. They can get things done. Here are some other ways...  Read More »

Global Warming special

Tagged:

I just watched a special on the Discovery Channel about Global Warming. It made me really sad to think about all the destruction we are causing to our planet. And how awful and ugly the world could be for our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. There are SO many beautiful things in nature, but they could be destroyed or underwater in less than 100 years. That is crazy to think about.  Read More »

Environmental policies in the Netherlands

Yesterday in my European politics class, a group presented on the Netherlands. They spent about half of their presentation on environmental policies in the Netherlands. It made me really happy. They're doing so much for the cause of the environment. It's partially "selfish". A good amount of their country is under sea level and if global warming continues and the level of the ocean rises they'll be under water. It just makes me upset that the United States, a country who could do SO much for the environment, is being selfish in a negative way. We don't care about countries like the Netherlands or even our own coastal regions like Charleston and New Orleans which would be directly effected by the rising level of the oceans. Why can't we care more? What will force us to change our ways? The End of Oil is a great book to read. It might scare you a little. But it really makes me think... what will America do if the end of oil came sooner than people want to admit? We're going to be stuck. I'm afraid that we'll have to revert back to the Middle Ages type of life because we'll have no way to power any of the things that we have grown used to.

Guantanamo Teach-in

I attended a session of a Guantanamo Bay Teach-in. In this session there was a panel of three journalists discussing their point of view of
Guantanamo
Bay.

The journalists, one from the Miami Herald, one from the New Yorker and one from Time magazine, talked about how there has been limited access at
Guantanamo
Bay for reporters. They said this makes it difficult to report on the situation there.              Read More »

Vietnam and Iraq

I believe that Vietnam and the
Iraq war are related. However, they do not compare completely.

In
Vietnam our justification was to prevent the communists from expanding. We wanted to prevent the domino effect. In
Iraq, our justification was to make the world safe for democracy. Both wars came out of another ideology or cause.
Vietnam was fought because of the Cold War and the mentality of the nation and the world during that period. The
Iraq war was an extension of the War on Terror and the aftermath of September 11th.

Response to North Korean issue

The North Korean issue is very complex. One would think the Bush administration would be for the use of force against North Korean like it was in Iraq; however, it has favored more diplomatic means with
North Korea.  Read More »

Reaction to Iraq soldier blogs

Through this assignment, I have looked at various blogs from soldiers in
Iraq. Some have been kind of boring, to be honest. But some have given a good image of what it is like in
Iraq and how they are feeling about the war.  Read More »
