World Trade Center - The Movie

Tagged:

So on a lot of movie blogs, tons of people are up in arms about the new movie "World Trade Center", staring Nicholas Cage. I hadn't even heard of the movie before last week. I checked out the trailer, and had to wonder why everyone's so pissy about it.

Here's the arguments that came up most in opposition to the movie. Many people believe it's too soon to make a movie about 9/11, that the families are still grieving and it's still fresh in our memories. Many people also claim that Hollywood doesn't care about the victims of 9/11, they just see dollar signs. A lot of people think it would have been more appropiate to wait 10, 20 more years to make a movie about this topic. In all honesty, I don't agree with any of them.  Read More »

Banning Funeral Protests (aka Fred Phelps)

Tagged:

So for a while, I was on the fence about the whole drafting and passing legislation in order to ban or hinder funeral protests (such as Fred Phelps). I hate Fred Phelps, and his family. I have done extensive research on them for news articles and have even interviewed Shirley Phelps-Roper and spoken to her now estranged son, Josh. I try to keep up on their news. Their family fascinates me and disgusts me. Kind of like a car wreck. But, again, as I said, I had to question the legistlation. First Ammendment doesn't guarantee free speech to only those who speak of what we agree with or like; it gives free speech to everyone, including rejects like the Phelps clan. When the ACLU took on the case for the Phelps church (the Westboro Baptist Church) against the State of Missouri, part of me felt like the ACLU was doing the right thing. Just because I didn't like what Phelps and his band of merry makers had to say, didn't mean he didn't have a right to say it.  Read More »

College Confidential

As a rising junior at the University of Maryland, it's hard for me to believe it's been 2 years since I got y acceptance letter(s). I decided to blog about why we chose the schools we chose, or plan on choosing.

I applied to 9 schools all together...Maryland, Syracuse, Bowdoin, Boston College, Boston University, Bentley, Fairfield, Loyola, Indiana...I got accepted to all but Syracuse, so my options were pretty open.  Read More »

Daddy's Little Girl

I've started taking to blogs as a form of therapy. This one's not progressive or really even meaningful, but it's one of those things I just really need to get out.

I just finished up my sophomore year at college, and I have always looked to my home in New York as a type of sanctuary. When school got overwhelming or I just needed a break, I always good find a safe place on my couch in my den with a blanket. This year things are completely different and I'm having a rough time accepting the changes.  Read More »

Responsible Sex

Tagged:

I haven't been a virgin for about four years now. I've had sex with approximately 8 men, some boyfriends, some friends, some one night stands. I have been on the birth control pill Orthotricyclin Lo since I started having sex. I also used condoms all the time until most recently with my boyfriend. I consider myself safe and responsible, and I think it's important to promote responsible sex. So here I go.  Read More »

Online Kiddie Pervs. I just don't get it.

Tagged:

I love Chris Hanson. Honestly, I think he is awesome. I've watched a ton of his "to catch a predators" and was greatly entertained by it. And so, I thought, no way could this be true, no way are this many guys absolutely ridiculously dumb enough to want to be a perv with a 13, 14, 15 year old.

Good God, I have been proven wrong.

To satisfy my own curiosity, I made a fake screen name. I logged into a regional chat on aim, I typed in "14/f, bored...anyone wanna chat?" This is an example of what I got:  Read More »

Dear People Who Can't Get Out of the Religious Box;

LEAVE ME ALONE! I am so sick of blogging about topics like abortion and such and having people tell me I need to find God. Christian people are crazy, I'm sorry, I was raised a Catholic and I am just so over being told I'm going to hell. I have premarital sex, I masturbate, I curse, I support pro-choice, and I don't go to church, i find majority of the beliefs of Catholocism a big crock of shit, and I just don't practice it anymore, and I am exceptionally happy with every choice I've ever made. Deal with it, please.  Read More »

Condoms Aid in the Fight Against Cervical Cancer

A new study found that women whose partners always wore a condom during sex were 70 percent less likely to become infected with the human papilloma virus, or HPV, which causes cervical cancer.

A three-year study of female college students — all virgins at the start — found that women whose partners always wore a condom during sex were 70 percent less likely to become infected with the human papilloma virus, or HPV, than those whose partners used protection less than 5 percent of the time.  Read More »
