Ghada Shamshiri was interviewed on Al-Arabiya, and I watched as she outwittingly defended her position and the position of all women in the Middle East who do not believe it is right to circumcize young girls (cliterodectomy) without their permission; have temporary marriages; or have more than one wife.

Here's the link to a part of the transcript, however, if you type in her name into Youtube, you can get a clip of her views there!  Read More »

Nick and George Clooney Video Blog on Darfur

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •

Nick Clooney, the reporter, and George Clooney, the actor, father and son were in Darfur documenting their travels and travails that they shared with the victims of the Darfur Genocide.

Today, there is a genocide going on in Western Sudan and soon, it will be too late for the victims. Not only will thei rnumbers have diminished -having gone into refugee status or dead-, but they will be psychologically scarred for life. The children who watch their parents die, and the parents who watch their children die will carry this black taste of death unless we implement and support our own government policies/regulations AGAINST the Sudanese Arab government.  Read More »

We Are Orphans, and We Are Your Future

Uganda's war torn countryside has led to the exploitation of children. They are the most defenseless and the most vulnerable.

Remember pushing around your cousin, brother, or sister who was younger than you and when they cried you felt that tinge of guilt and then hugged them to make the pain go away? THese children won't have that opportunity, because their families are consumed by war and the child is too abused to be sufficed with a simple hug. THEY NEED CHANGE. How?  Read More »

FREEING Hao Wu!

Remember Jill Carroll

[[If you don't, she was a reporter/journalist caught in Iraq, under different circumstances but in nearly the same position.]]

Hao Wu, a contributor to the world of blogging and grassroots journalism began his career as a blogger named "Bejing Loafer". His blogging reflected his Chinese roots and his experiences in a Western country, the U.S. He worked in the U.S for a number of years, in companies like Earthlink!

He was also a contributor to Global Voices, a film-maker, and a community member.

Let's not forget, though, that Hao is now under arrest in the hands of the Beijing Police, and has had limited communications with his family. Although his family are not allowed to publisize their griefs, the internet will do the job for them.

Here's an article by Rebecca MacKinnon, an author of Global Voices, detailing some of his stats as a writer and scientist, as well as his detainment.  Read More »

You Don't Know It Yet, But You're A Feminist

The women that I recently read about, a practicing Muslim, distanced herself from the word "feminist" because of its origins in Western cultural bogwash. Advocating for women's rights in the Islamic world, she argues that feminism brings cultural differences that can only be attributed to the Western ideology of women's rights.

Her fundamental rights are Muslim, first, and then woman[defeats the purpose, won't you say?]  Read More »

Here's an idea;

A simple, soft, feminist-upping sweatshirt for those of you who just love a girly-looking statement on the conservative view of Iran's nuclear energy proliferations.

(JUST NUKE IT! © could be another Top 100 sales hit!)

You've got to love consumerism when it just can't help being so loveable as in this product. Really, it's just a little weird.  Read More »

In An Ideal World

In An Ideal World

In an ideal world, we would not be able to discourse and discuss any of our differences, and would, like the distant cousin, Ape, sit in cordial groups and snack on each other's mites.
But, fortunately, that isn't the case, and we deal with an exciting environment of communication and appreciation of people that surprises us all with its diversity.  Read More »
