Are you registered to vote?

I spent the past two afternoons walking around downtown Indianapolis, clipboard in hand, trying to get people to register to vote. I was for some reason surprised at the still high amount of apathy in people's faces. "I'm not interested." "WHY?!"

I'm a fellow!

In about five hours, I will be at the Indiana Organizing fellowship through the Obama campaign. I'm so excited I haven't been able to sleep. I have been wearing one of my three Obama t-shirts since before he won the Democratic candidacy. Well, not every time I leave my house, but pretty close to it.

July 1st marked the first day for a lot of Indiana laws to take effect. One makes drunk driving accidents a violent crime. One makes low-stakes gambling legal in taverns. One well overdue law requires an eight hour hold on anyone charged with domestic violence. One law was overturned by a federal judge the day it came in effect- Indiana's "Naughty Law," as one local news program called it.

I spent last weekend in Chicago. A small group of us rode out there Saturday morning from Indianapolis. Our main objective was to go to a bike (motorcycle) and scooter show. Mods VS Rockers is an annual event of most of the chapters of the Ton Up Club. It was an eventful ride, both there and back.

I spent almost two years that I barely remember popping pain pills for recreational purposes. I knew it was bad for me, but I was at a place where I really didn't care. The numbness under the pills seemed a hell of a lot better than my reality. I'm not going to make excuses. I was addicted to pain pills because I wanted to be.
