Banning the Word Overweight

Tagged:  •

A lot of people are worried about the way they are perceived , especially those who are more likely to be made fun of, I remember when I was in elementary school teachers could say whatever they wanted, I remember being called stupid in class because I disagreed with the teacher She believed that aneurysms had no true known cause. I remember a friend of mind being called fat by the teacher as well because he didn’t want to play any games during recess. How times have changed, apparently now they are thinking of banning the former polite word overweight. I considered polite because honestly there are worse synonyms. However now the proper word would be changed to Obese, even if the person isn’t obese in reality. Obesity in reality is a chronic disease, there is two forms of obesity, standard obesity and morbid obesity which is characterized by more than two times ones ideal weight with a higher proportion of fat than muscle. Technically many athletes are considered overweight although not unhealthy, they weigh a lot because they have a higher amount of muscle than fat. The BMD is the way to determine whether a person is overweight not obese.  Read More »

Washintong Post Thinks Al-Jazeera is as American as Apple Pie

Tagged:  •

Many of you have already heard of Al-Jazeera , it’s a news network based in Qatar. Al-Jazeera roughly translates as “the island in Arabic” . The station itself has reputation of fostering anti-American sentiment. On the recent anniversary of 9/11 they showed Fahrenheit 9/11 by Michael Moore. One of its reporters is currently in Guantanomo Bay. The station has also been banned from the NASDAQ. It has won a Webby award in the past , although it did bring a long with it controversy. Al-Jazeera has also garnerd criticism from middle eastern viewers for actually giving air-time to Israeli officials. The middle east in case you don’t know hates Israel. However the station has also showed a dramatization of events at Guantanomo, as well as given away U.S. positions to Insurgents. The insurgents have acknowledged via documents that they consider it vital to their propaganda effort. So the question is then why would the Washington Post consider them important to our Freedom? Why would they consider them as American as Apple Pie? Are they seeing something we don’t we don’t see? Or are they deranged? ( In my opinion they are stupid to even admit this, this has removed any credibility they had left. Al-Jazeera is a station that is acting as Jane Fonda did during Vietnam, aiding the enemy, you think the media would realize they are working against their own country, apparently they don’t care)  Read More »

WMD's Found in Iraq

Tagged:  •    •

WMD’s have been found in Iraq, The United States found 500 Chemical warheads in Iraq. The weapons themselves can be used in either artillery, tank shells, or in missile systems (such as the SCUD system which Iraq deployed during the first Gulf War) More are expected to be uncovered as time passes. Now here is the odd part, these weapons were found some time ago, Rick Santorum the Republican Senator of Pennsylvania released the info during a press conference today. He stated that more are likely to be found and 500 is an estimate. The information was classified and the exact date of the find is not being disclosed. However the tone of his speech indicated that they were preserved on purpose, the weapons can still harm, some of them are confirmed to be Mustard Gas as well as Sarin.  Read More »

Its Official : Rove is Not Guilty

Rove will not be prosecuted, its official. Rove was officially told this Monday of the end of his criminal prosecution. Many believed (and hoped) that the prosecution would find Karl Rove guilty of leaking sensitive information. Although Rove will not be prosecuted, Libby will. The prosecution however will not release any more information about the circumstances of the case, at least right now. Here is an article from the NY Times about the exact details of the case (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/13/washington/13cnd-leak.html?ei=5094&en=e40da3e03155858f&hp=&ex=1150257600&partner=homepage&pagewanted=print)  Read More »

Minutemen Have Begun to Build Borderwall

Tagged:  •

The Minutemen have already begun to build a border wall at the southern border. They are officaly calling themselves the Minutemen Civil Defense Corp. The wall will consist of barbed wire, and steel rail barriers. The first part of the wall is being built on private land in Arizona. The groups founder has said that Bush's recent immigration bill and his plan to send National Guard troops is not enough and more needs to be done. The leader of the group has also said that he wants a wall along the border. The wall being built is expensive $100 ,000 dollars (not including maintence to it) The planned length for the wall is 10 miles long.  The purpose of the wall however is not to actually stop immigrants but rather pressure the Congress and the government as a whole help fix the immigration problem.

Now, many people are against the Minutemen but do they have a point. We are indeed allowing unfettered immigration. We have seen how this has effected other nations like France and the Netherlands. ( It effects their economy in a negative fashion but that is partially because their socialist systems cannot support a large amount of immigrants) We should as a country decide whether we wish to have legalize immigrants or just let the current system be as it may. We should also decide whether to create a distinction between illegal and legal immigrants . Now amnesty will never happen because most Americans would be up in arms, and because current illegal workers would have to be paid minimum wage, removing the only advantage illegal workers have to legal workers. The Fence is extremely expensive for a fact and its actual effectiveness is dubious at best. Technically speaking the acts in congress are just acts they would have to be enforced ( we currently have immigration laws but they are not enforced) The problem seems to be one we cant solve.  Read More »

Marine Corps Admit Investigation of Possible Iraq Massacre

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

Many of people against the War in Iraq have said that the US has committed atrocities against Iraqi civilians. Now the problem with their support for this is that most of it comes from unreliable sources as well as twisted logic. (White phosphorus argument for example) However according to The Marine Corps Time ( a military magazine) There is an investigation into a possible massacre. Ever war will naturally have such events but this caught my attention because it is coming from a source related directly to the government.  Read More »

The Virtual Border Wall : No Real Wall but Eyes in the Sky

Many people complain about border security and this post isn’t about the legitimacy of it, rather its about the tactics involved with the border. This article link here (http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,70907-0.html?tw=wn_politics_3) written by Eliza Barclay documents another proposal one supported by Homeland Security and the Border Patrol. They support a large amount of drones. They wish to increase the amount of drones to see when illegal immigrants cross from there they will intercept them. Essentially the plan is actually cheaper than Sensenbrenners amendment but offers no amnesty like the plan Bush supports. It is possible to blend this plan with just about any other plan however. The area being patrolled by the drones can be considered a barrier to illegal immigrants.  Read More »

English Now The Official Language : Senate Passes Bill Making English Official

Tagged:  •    •

In an associated press article by David Espo. Senate has passed a bill that makes English the official language although this will have far greater implications in immigration and society. I will write on how it will effect the school system. In many states bilingual education is law, schools must have it. However theoretically that can change because of this. The senate passed the bill with a large margin 63-34. The exact motivation of the bill is in the air. It is possible that the bill was an act of solidarity against illegal immigration but that would be jumping to conclusions.  Read More »
