More of College application

-Please tell us about something you did last Sunday afternoon (or the Sunday before that)   -    On Sunday, I spent time with friends working on academic endeavors like Mock Trial or Destination Imagination. This is my idea of fun! If I'm not working with friends on one of our group projects, I usually drive 30 miles away for a vocal lesson to prepare for whichever singing competition I have next or I'm doing my homework.

-Many students decide to apply to NYU because of our location.  Read More »

My college essay

OK, so I just recently sent in my application for NYU. I had to write an essay for my application. I thought I'd share my essay with everyone. Maybe it help give others ideas for thier essays. Let me know what you think.

Life in rural Iowa can at times be very interesting for those who thrive on being unique. The social atmosphere is much different than an urban setting. I feel that growing up in Iowa has given me a fresh perspective, because I've been forced to make the best out of every situation. I live in a town with 10,000 people and 1,000 high schoolers. Life in a small town can be fun, scary, and sometimes extremely boring.   Read More »

The Seven Project

Tagged:  •

OK, so recently this "seven project" group has been hanging posters in our school. This group really pisses me off. I have no problem with them having their little religious groups, but I strongly dislike the way that this group is run. Haven't heard of the seven project? Well, here is what they don't tell you. They come to you school. They feed you a bunch of crap about how their group is about leadership and technology and that if you want to learn more, you should come to their evening meetings.  Read More »

Your Parents Laughed At You Too!

Ok, well I've always seen the "Critique my writing" category, but have never used it, so I thought that I'd give it a go. This is a speech that I wrote for Individual speech competition. This speech was in the category called "After Dinner Speaking" - which means that its a short speech that's humorous or entertaining. Here it is.

My parents often laugh at me, but think about it. Your parents  Read More »

Michael Moore and Fred Phelps

Tagged:  •

Usually I'm not a huge fan of Michael Moore. I like what he says, but not necessarily how he says it. However, I did find this video of him confronting Fred Phelps of Westboro Baptist. This is an older video that was released before the Lawrence Vs. Texas ruling, because it is talking about how sodomy is illegal in some states. I do not agree with the depiction of gay people in this movie, but I understand that it is done in a joking manner.  Read More »

African American or Female

Well, as far as I'm concerned, in all likeliness Americans will have either an African American, or a female president in 2008. Who? Barack Obama or Hilary Clinton. Both show a great following and are always towards the top of the polls. I imagine that whoever wins the primary will have a good shot at winning the general election. Whichever one looses the primary, has a fairly good shot at becoming a vice-president.  Read More »

religion and homosexuality

Tagged:  •

I am always curious why the people who are most anti-gay are the really religious people. Come on people! It is the twenty first century. I think we have learned that it is quite possible for people with different viewpoints to co-exist. It makes me mad when religious people use their faith to justify hate, intoleration, and descrimination. Furthermore, the reactions that these people show towards homosexuals is completely hypocritical of the very foundation of their religion.  Read More »
