This is what has all been happening with the Censoring of What's Eating Gilbert Grape at our school
Gilbert Grape has been removed from CHS ciriculum. This is blantant censorship and we must fight for the principal of the matter. Anyone who wants to make a difference should voice their opinion to staff, and particlularly administration. What is the "ex-gay" movement?
The "ex-gay" movement is comprised of religious based organizations and quasi-mental-health groups that claim gay and lesbian people can change their sexual orientation through a combination of repentance, intense religious devotion, bible study, and "reparative therapy." These organizations believe that a homosexual person is in a sick or fallen state and must be healed from this sinful and unnatural disorder. Censorship
My school recently banned the book "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" from being taught as part of a Literature to Film class. This really pisses me off, because I was in the class last year, and it was an excellent book. It was written by an Iowan Author. It is about life in small town Iowa. It makes sense to teach in here. The book was banned because it contained scenes involving the main character having an affair with a married woman. Read More »

Exchange students
I really do enjoy the foreign exchange students in our school. I think exchange students in general make for really good friends. They are always intelligent. (They kind of have to be to learn and live in a different language.) They are all usually very open minded. Typically, they are fairly loyal, honest, and not to concerned with popularity, which is always a huge plus. They also bring a completely different perspective on everything, which is always good to hear. Read More »
