One in five children is sexually solicited online, from the ages of 10 to 17. With the numbers keep getting higher so do the number of sites that put children out there, sites like myspace, friendster and zanga and such others allow predators a window into children’s lives. I’m not saying these sites are bad and should be shut down or anything to that extent; I myself have a myspace profile and like it. The past three weeks dateline has been doing a series titled “To Catch a Predator” about the dangers of online chatting. The conclusion airs this Wednesday at 9pm on NBC. What I don’t understand is how parents are allowing their children this much internet access that this statistic has become a reality. Every parent knows the dangers are out there, yet it is extremely common for teens to have private access to a computer.

Living with the marines!
I have been staying with my sister for a little while in southern
California at her house on a marine base. She is a former marine and her husband is a marine. Living on a military base is totally awesome. Every time we drive on base they check ID’s and make sure the car is registered to be on base. It’s just a little thing happens every day but being a civilian and seeing how it works is pretty cool. On Sundays, instead of the normal American flag that is hung at the base’s front gate there’s a HUGE flag. Another emotion you feel here is happiness, when you see all the Marine Wives whose husbands are coming home from
Iraq. Huge signs welcoming the Marines home all over base “Welcome home Daddy!” My feelings about the war in
Iraq are pretty mixed but visiting my sister on base has really taught me, if anything to support the soldiers.
