Violence in the media is an ever-growing epidemic in our country. A person would be hard pressed to watch and hour of television, listen to an hour of rap music, or play a few different video games and not locate any instances of violence. Our society is emerged in violence whether the images and messages thrown at us causes the real violence in our world is the true question. Does the constant exposure to violence through media make people desensitized? Obviously, mass media has some type of effect on people because millions of businesses send billions on advertisements each year. If mass media did not affect people than why would companies pay so much to get their product thrown over public media sources? That may be a trick question because obviously media affects people. The real question is can it cause someone to become violence. This is another intense argument because there was plenty of violence before media came along. Exposure to violence in the media may cause some instances of violence, but it is not the only cause and furthermore eradicating violence in media will not end violence in real life.

Free Speech-Ticketed for a bumber sticker
About three months ago a women from Georgia was driving home from work when she was pulled over. When asked why the officer had pulled her over he told her that she had a lewd decal on her vehicle. According to an interview with the Athens Banner-Herald, “she immediately thought that one of her kids had put something nasty on her bumper as a joke.” Unfortunately, this was not the case.

Point to Ponder
Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 500 employees and has the following statistics:

* 19 have been accused of writing bad checks
* 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
* 3 have done time for assault
* 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
* 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
* 8 have been arrested for shoplifting
* 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits

Can you guess which organization this is?

Deforestation
The formal definition of Deforestation is the conversion of forested areas to non-forested. Basically, that means taking a place with a large number of trees and cutting them all down. It also means the loss or continual degradation of forest habitat due to either natural or human related causes. Historically, this meant conversion to grassland or to grain fields; however, the Industrial Revolution added urbanization and technological uses for trees. If the current rate of deforestation continues, the world’s rain forests will vanish within 100 years, which would cause unknown effects on global climate and destroy biodiversity by eliminating the majority of plant and animal species on our planet. The rainforests are notorious for many medical cures. With the elimination of the rainforests, we may be eradicating future medical advancements.

The Right to Privacy vs USA PATRIOT act
The right to privacy has been an increasingly poignant issue as of recent. I am writing this on this site in order to address my concerns about the lack of the fore mention right in our technologically infatuated society. My purpose is to concentrate more specifically on the ability of the government to repel our basic human and constitutional rights in a time of war or national conflict.

Stem Cell Research
Stem cells, or “undifferentiated” cells, can be developed into various kinds of tissues. There are man benefits to stem cell research. It has thus far been very promising when it comes to finding new alternatives to curing once untreatable diseases. Many common diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and autoimmune disorders, have the potential to be eradicated in the future with the prospects of stem cells. Some of the aforementioned diseases can be treatable with an organ transplant, but there are constant and deadly problems with rejection of organs as well as the inability to find a matching donor. In addition, most recipients of organs receive them due to the tragic accidental death of another healthy person. The recent discovery of the human stem cells has given us the potential power to escape these problems and renew the lives of suffering individuals with new tissue that could form to match there own. Unlike other cells in the human body, stem cells have the ability to become almost any type of cell or organ.

Global Warming is NO Myth
According to the dictionary global warming is defined as “an increase in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere, especially a sustained increase sufficient to cause climatic change.” Certain people believe that global warming is not an environmental problem, but a scientific pattern that would cause the earth to warm naturally in cycles. Personally, I think that it has been proven repeatedly that global warming is not a myth and that it could have grave effects on the future of the planet. I am not the only one who believes that global warming is true. In his 1999 State of the Union address, former president Bill Clinton stated, “our most fateful new challenge is the threat of global warming.” Recently global warming has been an increasingly pressing environmental issue confronting everyone in the international community.
