Free Republic anyone?

This blog is going to be short because it's simply an observation. It is not directed at anyone in specific.

I've noticed of late that there have been a lot of let's say not-progressives on ProgressiveU. I'm seeing a lot of blogs by people talking about "Abortion being against natural law" (written by males, no doubt); and several other opinions that are, shall we say, anti-progressive.  Read More »

Curious George goes to Vietnam

I was unfortunate enough to hear FoxRadioNews last night while listening to one of my favorite radio programs, Coast to Coast. The news at the top of the hour at midnight was "Bush completes tour in Vietnam". A little late for that, I'm afraid. While there are various jokes one could make about Bush's half-assed service during the Vietnam War; I find it ironic that George W. Bush, who spent his military years wasted in Alabama instead of going to Veitnam like both of the people he ran for president against; ironic that Bush would go to Vietnam when things begin to get tough here at home.  Read More »

"Woo-hoo! No school today!"

Did you think that when you got out of bed this morning? Did you sigh with relief when you realized that you have, not two days free, but three, this weekend? Did you think about why you had that extra day to lie about?

I did. Today was Veteran's Day. All week I have been thinking about the veterans I have known (both combat and non-combat), and I thanked those I could for serving this country. Those people who joined the military, for whatever reason, sacrificed years of their lives, their freedom of speech, their freedom of action, and any hope of sleeping in on a weekday until they've left military service. Combat veterans are sent into dangerous situations. They risk their lives to protect us. They lose friends; they lose their own lives as well. These people give so much to this great country and what do they get in return? A day. A day where school-aged kids scream "woohoo! no school!" and don't even take the time to think about why -- unless they are hearded into a "Veteran's Day Assembly".  Read More »

Well then, I had better get blogging

I just read that I'm in the top however-many, which is strange because I haven't been on ProgU in about a week. Last time I posted a blog it was out of obligation to the readers of The Jaded News who have not yet found our home at Myspace. Now, I suspect that my being in the top however-many because I've been a "feature blogger" since the beginning of this run at the contest. Of course, my blog on etiquette went over quite well, and people seem to be reading my posts. Though, I suspect that my snarky comments have earned me a few points here and there. I should keep doing that.  Read More »

The Jaded News -- Sunday, 5 November 2006

World News

*SURPRISE! This week Iraqi officials and US news media announced that the verdict in former Iraqi dictator, and over all sack-of-crap, Saddam Hussein’s first “crimes against humanity” trial will be announced sometime between Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th of November. US forces in
Iraq have made speculation that there might be some uncharacteristic chaos in the streets, and so security is being tightened. Meanwhile, the liberal media (including TJN) has a sneaking suspicion that this verdict is quite timely considering it will completely fill the news cycle in the 24-48 hours between when the verdict is announced and our midterm elections on the 7th. Stay tuned, news junkies. This is about to get exciting! Update: Surprise! He’s guilty! Hussein has been sentenced to death by hanging. Half of
Iraq is rejoicing, including Shiite PM Maliki who says this is a triumph of the “rule of law”. Cause there’s so much “rule of law” going on in
Iraq they have to take their victories where they can get them. Meanwhile,
Iraq’s Sunni Muslims are probably going to riot. Stay tuned.  Read More »

I want to share something with all of you. But before I do, let me say that I don't want your sympathy, please, this blog has a higher purpose than my tears.

One of my best friends, a soul mate, has recently killed himself. The reasons are only hypothesised, but there are several of them: he could have gotten a positive on an HIV test; he could have randomly felt impulsive and decided it was time; he could have been planning this for months. The reasons don't effect the affect, however, and so dozens of people in three or more states are left grieving; wounded in a way that he would not, and could not now feel.  Read More »

The Jaded News -- Sunday, 15 October 2006

World News

*Bad News: Things in
Iraq still aren’t going well. And while the last sentence may seem like the Understatement of the Year, it’s also pretty apt. In
Baghdad today, Shiite militiamen killed 46 Sunnis in what the Associated Press is calling a “revenge rampage” (the AP gets extra points for genocide-related alliteration). This newest round of deaths raises the “latest sectarian bloodletting” death toll to 63 – The Jaded News believes that “latest sectarian bloodletting” means “this weekend’s violence”. Is it a civil war yet? And what’s even more shocking, was the report by Johns Hopkins that came out earlier this week, estimating that 655,000 Iraqis have been killed since the invasion in March of 2003; 91.8 percent of those died of violent causes, and their relatives were able to produce death certificates. Critics have tried to dismiss the study saying that the margine of error is a quarter of a million: which means that as few as 405,000 Iraqis have died since March 2003; or as many as 905,000 have been killed.  Read More »

Blog etiquette or "How to write something people will read"

Tagged:

This is probably going to sound like a bitchy, condescending post, but hear me out. I'm just trying to help.

I've been trying reading a lot of blogs on here, and the vast majority of them, I ending up having to skip over because they are un-readable for one or more of the following reasons:
*Zero capitalization
*Poor or nonexistent punctuation
*No paragraph structure
*Poor sentence structure
*Poor vocabulary (confusing homophones, using words that don't exist, et cetera)
*Blog typed entirely in bold, capital letters, or other such nonsense
