Capitalism and the Sale of Family

One of my favorite singers to ever grace this earth was Janis Joplin. Tragically, she died at a young age, of a syndrome we commonly call "shooting-stardom." Recently, a revealing and very intimate biography has come out on her life, under the title Love, Janis. While that's all well and fine, and no one is going to be upset at knowing more about our well-loved singer, the issue comes in that her sister wrote it.  Read More »

An Analogy for Morality

Tagged:  •

We will imagine water within a clear glass orb, and in the center of it a hollow metal ball. The metal of the ball, like our morality, is perfectly balanced so that it neither sinks nor floats; it stays centered in the middle of the water. The glass orb is marked with various letters and symbols, all meaning something in our day-to-day lives.

Hold the orb in your hand and watch the metal ball within as you twist your wrist in different directions. No matter which direction you move your hand, the glass on the outside of the water can't affect the ball in the center, which neither sinks nor floats.  Read More »

Reasons Yoga Rocks

Someone else made a post about Yoga here. It prompted me to write why I'm a ametur yogi.

Reasons to do Yoga

1) You'll sleep better if you learn how to Shavasana just before bed.
I'm a schitzophrenic, and often can't sleep due to hallucinations or paranoia. That said, you don't know how nice it is to lie down in bed and be able to just put yourself to sleep. It is a blessing.  Read More »

Seneca Falls : Part III

Tagged:  •

Elizabeth Stanton and Lucretia Mott gathered together at Seneca Falls NY in the year 1848, along with 300 other people, and signed what is now known as the beginning of the femminist fight: the Seneca Falls Declaration of Women's Rights. When it was first signed, all issues mentioned were serious and applicable. But now, many of the goals that these women (and men) strived for have been achieved. I've taken a few and noted on progress.  Read More »

This is my last use of ! in a Title

Is it just me or does the online use of the common exclamation mark seem a little overkill?

Example:

buddy1: OMG! hi!! how are you?
buddy2: hi!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm good!
buddy1: wutsup! are you busy?
buddy2: nothin is up! u?
buddy1: lol!! nothin too!!!! we're both not busy!!!!!

It's a bit tiresome on the brain, if you ask me. I propose a restriction on the use of the common exclamation mark. Limit yourself. I'm gonna do it, as of right now. I'm limiting myself to the use of six exclamation marks for the next week. It'll be tough, but I think I'll get through!  Read More »

All my (healthy!) Children

Tagged:  •

The kids aren't gonna be happy about this.

No more chips. Or candy. Or fries. Or burgers.

The kids may be pissed, but I'm ecstatic.

England has recently eradicated junk food from the meals at public schools. The idea is to get adequete nutrition to children, and prevent obesity and poor health. It's a major step in the advocation of children's health.  Read More »

Power to the Pope!

At first, I wasn't too sure about this guy. He's a conservative ex-Nazi, for Chrissake. He's got a lot to make up for, in my eyes.

But this is a good way to do it.

Pope Benedict XVI ordered out of the church one of it's most notorious child-molester-priests. Father Marcial Maciel was notorious for his cush seat under the eye of John Paul II and his ability to evade any accusations of sexual abuse. But with the newly crowned Benedict, he finds himself suddenly without a seat at all.  Read More »

Palestine:

"My men that have been deployed in the street are ready to act against any sort of anarchy," said Imad Deeb, a Hamas commander. "We have nothing to do with the Palestinian Authority [security]. We are Hamas. This group is made up of fighters whose objectives are different. Their objective is to create law and order."

Hah! So you admit it, you dirty snake! And we trusted you to use your power wisely. But noooooo, Hamas, you've got to take over everything, right? You've gotta show those Fatahs who the real boss is. So what if you used to be a terrorist organization. You're good guys now, right?  Read More »
