Homeless as a Result of the US Healthcare System

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •

A little while ago I was talking to my friends about volunteering at the local soup kitchen. My mom goes there one night a month to serve dinner to the homeless in the community. It astounded me to hear some of the remarks from some of my friends. I couldn't believe how grossly misinformed one of my friends really was.  Read More »

"CHICAGO - In a case fraught with ethical questions, the parents of a severely mentally and physically disabled child have stunted her growth to keep their little "pillow angel" a manageable and more portable size.

Major: Undecided

Tagged:

This fall I will be a freshman in college, with a major in secondary English education. Many of my friends are going to college undecided. Is this a good or bad thing?

If you don't know what you want to do as a career, it may be better to go in undecided, but it's usually easier to get into college when you have a specific major. It's also easier to earn scholarships when you have identified a major.  Read More »

Bowling For Columbine

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

I've done a post about Bowling For Columbine and our nation's violence previously, but this one is about some of the quotes featured in the movie.  Some of them are astounding.

"You don't need gun control.  You know what you need?  We need some bullet control.  I think all bullets should cost $5,000 dollars.  You know why?  Because if bullets cost $5,000, then there won't be any more innocent bystanders." ~Chris Rock  Read More »

The Death Penalty: Racist Murder

Tagged:  •    •

Any statistics in my information is from the Death Penalty Information Center.

Currently, 12 states don't have the death penalty.  They are: Alaska, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. (And Washington, D.C.).  In 2004, the death penalty statutes of New York and Kansas were declared unconstitutional.  Now hopefully, more states will be added to the list of those without the death penalty in the near future.  Read More »

Roller Coaster Deaths

Tagged:  •

I, myself have never really been into roller coasters.  I love water parks and water rides, but I just don't like that feeling you get in your stomach when you're on a roller coaster.  Some people love the fear of it, but that's just never been fun to me.  Recently a 12 year old boy died on a roller coaster in Disney.

Affairs

Tagged:  •    •

As I sat listening to the radio this morning, the dj said that a recent report shows that 83% of married couples are having affairs.  83%!!!!  The dj said he would have expected maybe 40% at the most, but 83%?  That's just insane.

What is it about our society that makes us to sex-crazed?  Why do people even get married if they're just going to have affairs?  Marriage is about spending the rest of your life with the ONE person you love.  Yet 83% of married couples aren't happy with their partner?  They still need to go have affairs.  Read More »

MetLife Auto Insurance

Tagged:  •

If you are ever looking into car insurance companies, be sure not to choose MetLife auto insurance.

My mom just had to get a new car since hers died Friday night and the price of fixing the car would cost more than the car is actually worse.  So she went down to DMW to register the new car and they told her to surrender her license plates because she hasn't has insurance since February!  But all this time she's been paying MetLife.   Read More »
