A Veritable Phenomenon.

Snakes On a Plane has become nothing short of a stunning cinematic phenomena, their already agressive ad campaign has just sallied forth with a stunningly gutsy new concept.

Now, it's clear the creators have been gunning for cult status, realizing that this film had only one redemption and that was a fan base. Seeing that remarkably cheesy movies that were poorly done are now appreciated by a niche it slowly made on pop culture and are veritable merchandise cash cows. They are gunning for this using every stop, a cheesy title, presumably a tongue in cheek script, fan boy superman Jackson (over a decade down the road and Pulp Fiction is still generating tons of merchandise as well as horribly done rip offs.), and now a William Castle-esque gimmick to make sure it will remain in the minds of all those that witnessed this phenomena.  Read More »

Haunted Society A.K.A. The Return of the Prodigial Blogger

Alas, here I sit at work, it is 0200 Hrs and I find myself bereft of any and all work. I've actually been at a lack of labor since I arrived at 2100 Hrs. but I was in the midst of a fascinating literary work which derived me of any knowledge of having nothing to do. I suppose many people would love the concept of doing nothing for ten dollars an hour, well, 15 dollars an hour right now, I'm in overtime, but honestly time drags so much slower when you have naught but the flicker of a moniter and the far-off keyboard tapping of your sole other co-worker to keep you company. I am Michael; this is my latest blog, perhaps it will be my opus magnum, or just a long-winded pile of forgotten hubris, it's often just a roll of the dice.  Read More »

Dr. Strangelove 2: Or, How I Learned To Stop Loving and Drop the Bomb

Tagged:  •

I just watched the brilliant "Dr. Strangelove" yesterday and had a thought: Replace "General Ripper" with "President Bush" and then replace "Commies" with "Terrorists". Then watch and enjoy. It's spooky, isn't it? History repeats itself and the fear of terrorism is as absurd as the fear of communism, we're mis-educated, mis-informed, and panicky. We can't defeat and idea like zealousness, zealousy is what we need more of in society and we need to quit fighting it.  Read More »

The Eerie Paradigm Shifts in Literature, Or: The Future of False Sophistiction

I moved, it was a lovely move. It was quick, somewhat painless (save for my beloved I left behind) and has set me smack dab in the very core of the town I'm within, all for 75-85 dollars for rent, not to mention the best landlord a fella' could want. Anyhow, I'm just a stones throw from the library, which makes me happier than one could ever comprehend and I'm tending to spend hours in there simply perusing. During yesterday's perusing I had a horrifying thought ... what books of today would be the fodder for intellectual quotations and debate in the future? Sadly, I'm almost absolutely certain that said books will be fare such as Harry Potter and The DaVinci Code. You think me absurd, huh? Think on this:  Read More »

Marijuana, Mexicans, and Stigmas

I was listening to the radio the other day and there was a PSA on there. It was your usual goofy PSA with mis-used "stoner" terms, like "Good Stuff, Man" or "Let's Light Up some Weed Man" and directly following this PSA was an advertisement for wine titled "The Urban Escape Plan."

Now I'm not genius, but this seems, um, hypocritical? I'm not against alcohol, but let's call escapism "escapism", and a spade a spade. Both substances provide a means of "escaping" from problems, you know what? Stuff stresses me out and it absolutely sucks that I'm morally opposed to underage drinking and illegal substances, I wish I had a means to calm me down sometimes. It isn't bad, in moderation, but isn't moderation always the key?  Read More »

Knee-Jerk Reactions, Or: I certainly don't support feminism.

Oddly enough out of all the topics I have blogged on, the most controversial one has been animal rights. I think it's frightening how many people just skimmed over my blog and jumped right into accusing me of monstrosities. I never once condoned animal violence, I just downplayed animal violence. I'm generally indiferrent to animal violence, I don't approve of it, I think pit fighting is a horribly hickish way of getting kicks. I also think abusing animals is a very good sign of a very bad individual. However, most people assumed I was condoning animal violence whereas I was just saying human rights are infinitly more important than animal rights, we shouldn't concern ourselves with shutting down fur producers and medical health facilities. Animals are second to humans, we've earned our right in natural selection, why place lesser species in front of us? I assure you they would never do the same for us. One guy went as far as to call me a F****** Retard and threaten violence on me, for what? I said that animals were inclined towards violence, not sensless violence no, but in the wild they would fight for alpha-male status and these feral states are natural. Apparently it's also natural in humans.  Read More »

Tristin and Isolde (Spoilers...I guess, as if it isn't predictable anyhow)

Tagged:

Well, I watched Tristin and Isolde with my girlfriend yesterday, I rarely review movies but this was just a very odd one that took me off guard. I already saw a review of this film on here, but it was mainly a complaint of more lust than love, but there was more to it than that.

Now, lust and love: my girlfriend intelligently pointed out to me that it is much, much easier to film the physical side of love than the less tangible sides. Although I do believe sex is best left for marriage, it isn't bad, it's a beautiful, natural expression of true love. Yes, it's often used inappropriatly for selfish reasons, but not always. So lust is an easy way to express love in movies, although I have to admit Tristin and Isolde's "love" formed really quick, and more or less the only "hints" we had leading up to it was Isolde ogling Tristins man-flesh as he romped in water, oh yeah and some poetry or something in there too. Either way, that was pretty hashed in there.  Read More »
